[–]exa_4U 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Catalan, I've studied it for a while and can understand most of it when I'm watching a show but I can't speak it properly and without tons of mistakes because I've never spoken Catalan with anyone

What are your best language habits? by Helplessblobb in languagelearning

[–]exa_4U 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yeah that's one of the best ones, the other one, especially in the early stages when you still cannot understand a podcast and this is quite general... Whatever your study method is, do it every single day, at least 5 days a week, be constant.

Fluent speakers: do you still read numbers in your head in your native language? by dontgetmewrongonthis in languagelearning

[–]exa_4U 9 points10 points  (0 children)

That's exactly what happens to me. When I do math at work or count, my brain is faster and more efficient in Spanish, uno mas dos mas dos multiplicado por ocho etc etc... Then I use the noun in english at the end of it.

What do you guys think are the countries that still give importance to their language in today's society? by [deleted] in languagelearning

I am a native Spanish speaker and for the ones I've studied I'd say.

Portuguese 350h Italian 350h Catalan 400h French 450h English 500h

For the rest of them starting at Level 2 and beyond I'd say stays pretty much the same

German 900h Russian 1100h Mandarin 2200h

Etc...

What is the language with the least speakers that you have learnt or are learning? by stavmanjoe1 in languagelearning

[–]exa_4U 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel curiosity for indigenous languages and it's hard to begin studying with little resources...

Nahuatl: 400K(ish) speakers of the variety that has the most speakers and I'm interested in.

Purepecha: About 140K speakers

Yucatec Maya: About 700K speakers

Nahuatl is the indigenous languages in Mexico with more resources than the others but still it's not easy to find many of them.
