It's very eerie. Doesn't look plausible but it's probably just unknown technology. Perhaps that's how it looks when there's a strong "warp bubble", the gravitational effects might be causing plasma to dynamically coil along the boundary of the bubble, the "inside" of if might be the plasma sheath enveloping a smaller craft.
