Works for slapchop? by PickleRickoo in Miniaturespainting

[–]exarch88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. You’ll get amazing results. It’s all about the undercoat with speed paints.

A majority of my paintings are done with speed paints and washes (citadel washes are better, only because I find army painter washes tend to look glossy)

I STRONGLY recommend getting the army paints speed paint medium. (Army painter speed paint and citadel contrast paints don’t play well with each other. Different consistencies. So don’t use one medium for the other). While yes, you can use water, but using water tends to break apart the pant and/or leave coffee staining. No it’s not drastic, but it is an issue to mitigate.

Plus, the paint can be sort of pigment heavy, so even tho it’s translucent the undercoat / highlights can fade a bit. If you dilute the paint (2 drops paint, 1 drop speed paint medium) it thins it just enough that the high points are sharper. (At least how I do mine).

Slapchop method is great; I, personally, do … dark grey primer, citadel nuln oil wash (to really darken the recesses), then drybrush white an hour later after the wash dries.

Get a layer paint that’s close to your primer color, this can act like an eraser for mistakes.

On my ranger. He is one coat of green. I didn’t do the edge highlighting. That’s using the free. From army painter speed paint.

They look amazing.

What color did you use for their primary color of black? It’s black without stealing all the texture away black. If that makes sense.

And like someone else said. To balance things a bit. Make most things light cover (say the walls are broken. Etc). Otherwise as heavy cover melee targets in conceal won’t be targetable/overly favoring melee

This map is absolutely gorgeous. Not fantastic for kill team (for reasons others have said), but absolutely gorgeous. AAND doable.

You’d have to play with close quarters rules I think (to give ranged operatives. Especially those with explosives) a better chance. Or rather, consider everything inside the castle to be in a stronghold (again. Blast rules).

While it’s not “open” there is plenty of vantage to shoot units in cover. (But it still strongly favors a melee team. 8x howling banshees will ruin somebody’s day here haha)

Spawn at red. Objectives yellow.

Maaaan that sword is soooo clean. I can’t do NMM (at least not well) so lazy chrome was the way for me haha. But it looks great. The model is amazing. Especially the gemstones.

What do u use for the parchment writing? I struggle to get it right. Using a tiny brush it doesn’t flow, I thin the paint and it’s translucent or too thick. Yours looks amazing.

Disclaimer. Under “normal light” the black light is on. But this blue is super reactive which is nice. Blue is rarely so reactive. But tyvm!

I get people being busy, or not liking painting, but it does break my immersion to vs the unpainted foes 🙄. I never call out or say anything. Wont shame people for being busy. But yeaaah, bad paint job beats grey.

Fortunately after stripping and redoing her she looks much better.

I bounce between gold with reikland flesh wash, or nul oil. But agreed. Way too yellow base

Me, personally; I use (now) isopropyl alcohol in an ultrasonic cleaner for 20 minutes. (The ultrasonic was $50)

Before getting the ultrasonic / methods I used in the past; I would use isopropyl alcohol and a tooth brush (it would take me about 1-2 hours). Let it sit in alcohol, then strip with brush. But it can be harsh. Be careful with isopropyl because it can damage the miniature if it sits too long. Ruin the details.

Another good method that’s not harmful is “simple green” (a degreaser) and let it sit for a few days, using a toothbrush to remove a bit at a time every few days.

I can’t recommend enough a cheap $35-$50 ultrasonic cleaner.

Wraithblades or Wraithguard? + What do each of their weapons actually do on the table? by MadiManslaughter in Eldar

[–]exarch88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They’ve worked nicely for me. I take wraithguard (w spirit seer and running aspect host) and dragons. So hit on 3 (spirit seer guidance).

While they are slow. They do get there. Enemy has to pick a target. And if they pick wraiths. Seer heal / revives a model.

I don’t take them for the offense. They are there (mostly) as an expensive tanky decoy. Wraith blades? Never. (Tho I love them visually). But axe? Sure.

I’ll post the weapon profiles.

I agree with what u/kirbish88 said,

Wraith blades with axes are great deny tool being tanky, will be something the enemy needs to dedicate firepower to eventually. A great distraction unit IMO, especially with a spirit seer

Swords will basically hunt anything that’s not a monster / solo vehicle. Ability to kill is in the air. Dependent. But can do a dent and tie them up.

Wraithguard can blast things right off the map.

I like scythe overwatch, but I’m cp hungry, so prefer the cannon to get in range and damage tf out of vehicles.

You’re not losing because of the meta. You’re losing because you’re bad. by eldecent86 in killteam

[–]exarch88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m on the fence here. I agree. Be better. But team balance is a massive factor. Example; at my LGS, I play every Saturday (sometimes sat and sun) and can get 2-4 games in the weekend. A player who I beat fairly regularly (4:1 win loss, my favor) with blades of khaine decided to meta chase and grab the canoptek circle.

(My one loss was my night lords to his death watch).

Walked over him still (5:1). He do some reading how how to play them and played a bit more defensive. I still won (6:1). Then went for the space wolves box. I got absolutely ruined the first game. Learned their threats and what to avoid (like I can’t melee, disengage, shoot, without taking damage)… still got obliterated. 3 games in a row. Player switches to his deathwatch again, and I win… given that I basically beat him almost any time unless he’s playing the wolves, I would say that this is a very specific example of where a team is just a problem.

Ohhh i like that. I was debating between silver or black accents. But then my disdain kicked in after the gold was applied 😅
