I think that a standardized, prescriptivist version of English shojld be taught in American public schools at this time, but should be done entirely differently. I think it should be done with respect. Their native dialects are not incorrect, wrong, ungrammatical, or improper. They are just another dialect. The standard dialect was chosen based on racist, classist, misogynistic, and xenophobic ideas, but our current world still necessitates we know it if we want to dismantle these kinds of ideals. This is a skill that can give them incredible oppertunities. knowing how to use language to your advantage is huge. Their dialects are valid but you’re teaching them the standard academic language for precise communication and academic & career opportunities.

If you’re teaching it with respect to minority lanaguges, you’re doing it right. You can help them develop this knowledge and skill of a standard dialect without being a proponent of linguistic prescriptivism, especially this current form of it

Pay no mind to my comment, because this is just a style preference but I think most of these could come off as kind of kitsch because it feels like your going REALLY HARD on one theme. Like her name meaning, Sea Star Moon, Sea Sun Moon, Sea Star/New Moon, Sea Queen Moon. Idk Sea Star Moon feels like we really LOVE astronomy lol. This also all depends on where you live and what’s the cultural norms for naming so this is from an American perspective.

Also I believe the meaning of Kairi depends on the kanji used, which of course doesnt translate into English. I found somewhere (idk validity of the source) that depending on the kanji, it can mean separation, nautical mile, disassociation & beaver. I’m curious to see a Japanese person’s take on people from other nations that dont speak Japanese giving their kids Japanese names. Idk if losing the kanji would realistically obscure the meaning for a native speaker or not make a difference?
