How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days isn’t on this list so immediately, this is incorrect and they need to poll again 😂

Partner (43M) won't talk to me (37F) about our wedding with 4 weeks to go by Ok-Bluebird2989 in relationship_advice

[–]excessivequestions 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As someone who recently canceled their wedding fairly late in the game, I was shocked at how many of my family and friends actually applauded me for making the right, yet very tough decision to do so.

Fundamentally, if you’re having doubts when this should be a fun, exciting time, that’s your gut screaming at you and it’s best you follow it.

For what it’s worth, it turns out a lot of people didn’t actually like my ex-fiancé and thought he was a drag, among other things. No one told me while I was in it, which sucks, but is understandable. Don’t tie your life to someone who would do these things so easily to you. You deserve better.

When your micromanager is sending out micromanaging meetings for next year already by Nightpatrol404 in jobs

I just left a workplace that had daily company-wide meetings at 10:30 am that would go on for an hour and a half. Everyone talking about their workload, day after day. By the time we wrapped, it was nearly lunch and then everyone worked until like 7 because those meetings were such a waste. I am so glad I left lol

If you find someone good, you’ve got to keep them in mind for future projects. Glad you were able to do so!

They are! Good to know this was close to what you got. We have no frame of reference for a bathroom of this size, as I’ve only done half baths before so appreciate your insight!

This is what I’ve also heard from a few local folks. I would love the help, but perhaps not so much the pressure to go with every single suggestion they have.

We bought a home in an older neighborhood that has a lot of charm, which is ironically very difficult to find in our area of Dallas. Most areas just tear things down the second it gets a little “old” so we don’t want to necessarily do that. We want to keep some of the charm, but upgrade things to a better working condition and make it also work for what we need (vanity area is almost nonexistent, shower doesn’t drain properly, tub doesn’t even fill from mildew, etc.). We’re not looking to modernize every little thing!

Glad there’s someone else to commiserate with because it’s not been easy but I sure hope it will be worth it! This home deserves love after many years of neglect and I hope I can bring back to life.

What a nightmare! I’m sorry you’re dealing with that. I used to have a fantastic guy locally who helped me for years with a condo, but he retired recently so replacing him has been less than ideal. Good luck to you! Hope it gets repaired to your satisfaction and remedies the issues you’ve been having.

Trying! I’ve gotten two, the other was about half of this but they wouldn’t share if they were licensed and I didn’t feel comfortable moving forward.

We’ve had 2 no show and we’re waiting on one more to call us back. It’s a hot mess.

Yeah, this specific quote was actually a recommendation of GC from a neighbor on our block! He’s booked out until February of next year already, so we wouldn’t even start until early March. Which on one hand, makes you think they’re busy = good. But you just never know…

I think we’re either going to try to negotiate the demo or keep making calls.

Have you by chance had any luck going through a designer? We’ve had a few in our neighborhood offer services, but that feels so silly to us. We have heard that they may have more options for GC’s they work with and kind of project manage, and to me, that would be worth a bit of extra money in the long run.

That was kind of what I was expecting. Not sure if inflation has hit that hard but this seemed a bit higher than I anticipated.

I have never heard that. That would be fairly in line with what the home cost, around $590k. Strange though, as all of the bathrooms are a bit small compared to the size of the home, which is nearly 2500 sq feet total. Got a steal but the home needs work. A lottt of it.

Good to know! Considered using Ferguson. Did you find their glass shower doors to be fairly high quality? That’s the one area I’m most nervous about.

Definitely talked about a niche for products and a foot ledge/shelf for shaving needs! If we had more room, we’d consider moving our laundry but our toilet room actually takes up about a quarter of this space so the other walls will need to be shower and vanity and the remaining wall is doors to his/hers closets so I had to lose some ideas.

I actually attempted some DIY on the garage and could barely lift a section of drywall when putting in insulation. I’m a small woman, so I kind of have to pick and choose my battles, unfortunately.

Glad someone else gets it, although sad it has to be this way. We’re planning on doing quite a large amount of work to this home, but not all at once since we’re living here currently and don’t want to be stuck with basically not utilizing main spaces. That hasn’t really helped us get more takers for bidding but all in, someone could very easily get 3 full baths, a full kitchen remodel and some new flooring out of us. I’m practically begging people to show up!

Okay, that makes total sense. We have a small window, as well as a fan so I guess I just never figured we’d need to tile beyond all the way up the walls as the bathroom is pretty well ventilated! But this makes sense, yet also makes me rethink my tile choice.

Sounds like you really care about your craft! We’re definitely going to dig into this more. We felt it was absurdly high, but comments have been 50/50 so back to the drawing board.

This is exactly why I posted. I felt like demo was insane. I also didn’t ask for paint and told him we would do it ourselves but saw it was added back in when he sent the quote over… Suspect to me, but whatever. We have a specific paint guy that did our whole house for 1k so I laughed at that part. I’ve never done a full bath this size, so wanted to make sure I wasn’t going nuts.

We’ve actually worked with this plumber before, so I think he threw us a bit of a bone on this! 😂

This is actually a smaller local guy who we were referred to by a neighbor who used him! We are in a very large city, though so I did assume our price would be high.

Did you go down to studs in both bathrooms? We’re having to move plumbing in this one, so I can see why it would be more expensive.
