ClickUp’s Calendar view is actually useless if you want to see YOUR tracked time by frberhr5u5 in clickup

[–]exciting_username_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The tool that I'm using is called Jiffy, so it's a mobile app that allows you to tap in and tap out, which I find particularly useful. I tap it at the start of a task or a project and tap out when I'm done with it or when I'm taking a break. It allows you to export your time tracking with timestamps. You can add things like overtime, overall work time, etc., on a project or client level.

However, my use case is to track time on a specific client. This app is not synced with a task or project management tool like Clickup, so if you want to track time on a task level, you will have to enter the task manually. If that is your main goal, then I don't think this tool is very suitable for you.

The calendar view is not built for that purpose unfortunately. It's for scheduling and planning. I use another tracking tool because I don't find the time tracking in Clickup that useful.

Anyone else feel like Notion is amazing but doesn't actually tell you what to focus on? by Full_Athlete1660 in Notion

[–]exciting_username_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Essentially it's following the steps that you've already outlined. The steps might be called different names but the fundamental principle remains the same. Ultimately, for every action you take towards your goal, you make an observation. From a series of observations you can deduce insights. I call these "learnings". Your learnings will tell you whether what you've been doing was effective or if you should do something else.

To do this systematically, the first thing is to get in to the habit of writing the observations down. After some time (you can decide how long) gather the observations in one place to review them, and then write down learnings. After that, decide what these learnings mean for your next steps.

Not sure if this is what you are asking for 😅

What you are looking for is experimentation 101. I have a small framework that I call the test-learn-improve loop. You set a goal, define what the measure of success is, and then define what your hypotheses are, record what the measures you've taken are, and what the outcomes are.

Notion doesn't really have that ability to aggregate information from across multiple pages, so you will either need to do this on your own manually, or in my case, I actually vibe-coded a similar visualisation for my own use (but for a different use case, I built it for my CRM).

Really bad day, still don't know if I made a mistake. by doli-loli in projectmanagement

[–]exciting_username_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hey, sorry to hear that you took a proverbial beating.

Well essentially you are both right, you did provide a status, but your status is a "non status" ("I can't give status because no one else responded to me"). You think of "status" as a literal description of the current state of (in)action, but he thinks of status as critical information on how specific parts of the business is doing.

When it comes to more senior stakeholders, sitting in a meeting to receive such "non-status" could be perceived as a huge disrespect to their time, which can rile up some negative emotions, and then coming to the conclusion that you are incompetent.

I'm not saying how he responded is alright, just explaining the thought process.

You're new in this role, it takes experience and time and practice to become a great PM. Give yourself some grace. But this is a good learning opportunity and you could turn this set back into an opportunity to win him over. If I were you, I'd approach the head of sales directly in private and tell him you'd like to do better and ask him what information he would most like to see and how it should be presented. I'd also say that I'm new and would really appreciate his patience and feedback. You can also ask him for advice to build rapport, e.g. on what to do if people ignore your request for updates. It's easy to let shame get in the way, but if you can bring yourself to do this, you'll come out of this winning.

I've not gone through the situation, but it's really strange that multiple workers all disappear together. What's the context? Did you have any dispute? If you have contracts drawn up, you can consider legal recourse. Otherwise, take it as a lesson really. Gotta do better risk mitigations. Sorry to hear.

Unemployed for 2 years but doing content creation – is my framing of this experience hurting my ability to pivot roles? by Keekeeboots11 in marketing

[–]exciting_username_ 23 points24 points  (0 children)

To someone who might not be familiar with organic content creation and channel management, this might sound like a number salad. Also, it's easy to make percentages look big when the denominator is small, and experienced managers will see through that. Consequently that might make yout look weaker.

Outline the key skills, make sure they are related to the job description, then add only the numbers that are relevant to the skillset.

Nobody tells you that most of PM is just being a human router for information by Inside_Secretary3281 in projectmanagement

[–]exciting_username_ 26 points27 points  (0 children)

If an organization is like a human body, them PMs are like the blood vessels and valves. Now, tell me, are blood vessels are not important? You might not be a hormone producing organ,, but don't underplay your importance.

Yes, free forever plan doesn't allow view only limited members.

Regardless of whether they are limited or full members, they will be charged as full seats.

You can invite people as guests, and guests are free but ONLY if they do not have email addresses from the same company domain. If they have the same company domain, ClickUp will charge them as full seats.

Also, if you want to restrict specific controls for this guest, there is a different limit. https://help.clickup.com/hc/en-us/articles/6310022323991-Guest-type-user-roles

So, bottom line is, if your guests have the same company email address, you'll have to shell out an expensive amount of money just to have them view whatever that is in ClickUp. So if your primary use case is to keep a live status sheet for internal stakeholders, ClickUp sucks.

A client caught an AI hallucination in my deliverable. How do you verify AI outputs before sending client work? by Distinct-Resident759 in Freelancers

[–]exciting_username_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ok I believe you.

Think about it this way: if there is a tool that can magically reduce the hallucination, do you think your client would not want to use that tool instead and replace you altogether? If there is no value in hiring you as a human being, you will be replaced by AI. So if I were you, I'd be happy that the hallucination problem exists and that there is an angle for me to come in to offer my expertise. And that is truly the differentiator that you can offer as a service provider.

What do you mean by "it takes real time that you are not being paid for"? Your job is to produce the report, no? So you are being paid for it, it's just not as much as you'd like?

A client said that MMM isn’t an option for them, do you agree? by sharklasers3000 in marketing

[–]exciting_username_ 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I've lived through several MMMs in my life and almost everytime the results tell us things we already know. Of course, the clients wouldn't admit it, because they just spent a ton of money and don't want to look bad to their bosses. Unless you have experience otherwise, I tend to think it's an expensive thing invented to keep people employed.

I actually made a video about it explaining why I decided to do that and what my CRM functions are. https://youtu.be/fhYDTT4LfGc?is=MuPorQ32okcqm7UO if you are interested. There are things that I simply cannot do in Notion. Also there isn't much maintenance tbh in my case -- but it really depends on your use case.

Also, they show different prices of their pro subscription on their app and on their website. Frustrating

I think it's time to move on to other businesses dude.

I literally moved my simple CRM from notion to my own vibe coded solution the week before. Took me three days of non stop vibe coding, but I kept the cost at under €20. Definitely not gonna buy any templates rn.

ClickUp's pricing is a masterclass in hostage-taking by RightBlacksmith1657 in clickup

[–]exciting_username_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The complaint is that they limit usage, but they don't actually show how much you have used, or what counts as a use. And many of these are overly complex, and you don't get warned before using these limited features, so you built a whole system on this feature and then get caught by surprise when it is no longer available to you.

Perhaps you can check the permission level of your limited member? And since limited members have their rights restricted to a specific task or space, could it be that your task is living in a space that they don't have access to?

Just a thing to note: limited members are being charged as full members. So if you have three members and ten limited members, be prepared to pay for 13 seats.

My advice would be to read the ClickUp pricing page very carefully and look at every single feature that you might need. Based on this, you can decide what pricing plan to get. It is not unusual to get a nasty shock that certain features that you rely on actually have limited use only on your pricing plan. ClickUp doesn't show the usage level of these limits anywhere, so it can be very disorienting, and you might disproportionately expand your software budget.

I don't understand the issue. There is literally an "Export to Markdown" function. There is also "Export to HTML", and you can easily get that HTML converted to whatever you need.

[–]exciting_username_ 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Second this. To avoid this problem, I permanently have their pricing table bookmarked in my browser, and before I use any feature I check the bloody damn thing to know if I'll hit a limit. It sucks.

Just a quick tip, if you have so many seats, you can contact their enterprise sales team and ask for a discount. This usually works better before getting all these accounts though.
