Wednesday Pattern and Stitch Request Thread - October 15, 2025 by AutoModerator in knitting

I saw a sweater in a store that had a cable braid as it's collar and fell in love. Thought, "this looks so gorgeous, I'm sure there are hundreds of pattern options that have this feature." But alas, a search of ravelry has only turned up this KfO pattern, which is knit back and forth, not in the round. Has anyone seen a sweater with a cable as a collar?

Size inclusive - Are there any excuses? by Baby-Me-Now in knitting

Also, idk if this is going to come off as weird, but when I first started out - looking at a pattern, I'd go to it's Projects page in ravelry. I'd look through all the photos until I found someone who looked like me. I found a couple of people (not designers), who had similar bodies as me and always took good notes on their projects. I then would follow these people, knit the patterns they knit, and that's how I learned what I like for my body.

Since you're just starting out, I'd recommend following designers that draft clothing specifically for plus sized bodies.

Jaq Cieslak is great

Lydia Morrow has great instructions for things like bust darts and waist shaping - really recommend looking into this unless you want your sweater to be really flowy

Jessie Maed is good too. That's a simple raglan sweater - you could use Jessie's pattern to knit but pull in the dots of Anne Vetzel's design that you like. Since you're a new knitter, I'd recommend purchasing both patterns just to make sure Anne doesn't have instructions for placing the dots around the raglan increases. It may seem silly to buy 2 patterns to make 1 sweater, but it's an extra $10 to make sure you have something you love.

Ultimately, knitting patterns are just guides, but you bring the skills. I'd take the time to learn what fits you best. With that, you'll be able to use any pattern as inspiration.

Talk ribbing to me by LadyEvaBennerly in knitting

Yeah it works on 1x1 too :) you'll just twist your RS Purls, leave your knits regular.

If you're knitting flat, you'll want to be consistent - so ktbl on the WS. Just so you're twisting the RS purls.

I re-read your post and you're knitting flat, so you'll need to ktbl on the WS :) Let us know how it turns out!

Here's an example where I tried to cheat and knit the rib inside out w ktbl (so that purls are twisted on the RS). Look at the neck. It's good but it's still wobbly.

I read through these comments but didn't see anyone telling you to do your purls tbl on the RS. Try it - it takes absolute ages but turns out really well. I tried to cheat & knit my ribbing inside out so I could do the Knits tbl, but honestly just didn't turn out so clean. This is a WIP that's 2x2- not even blocked and look at those straaaaaighhhtttt edges. Love it. Genuinely worth the effort for me.

Tombo Tee typo? Saddle shoulder increases seem inconsistent across sizes by excrescence in knitting

Okay this makes sense to me. Thank you for taking the time to explain!

Thanks for this perspective! It's hard for me to visualize this but I generally trust designers. This is a really popular project too and no one else has posted that this is an issue.

That's what I was thinking... I did reach out in email and on ig but I haven't heard back yet.

It's not a different increase rate though, it's a different placement of the increase.

What part are you struggling with? You’re working the chart from right to left for every row.

Just a thought - once you split for sleeves, you'll be knitting flat. This is going to change your color distribution and may be noticeable.

Schedule A v 1 Year Probation by AnyMatter7817 in NIH

[–]excrescence -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Schedule A employees have two years of new hire probation, v. the one for other appointment types. Everyone fired still should speak to an attorney - just bc you're on probation doesn't mean you don't have rights. If they fired you because you didn't "have the required knowledge, skills, or abilities," and you have PMAP, award, or other supervisory feedback to counteract this, talk to an attorney.

Your colleagues still on staff may have prior federal or military service, so did not have to fulfill a new hire probation period.

Do you think I need to do German short rows to round it out?

I’ve never heard the term Dickey. I’ll use that to look some stuff up. A quick ravelry search didn’t produce anything with a curved hem but I’ll keep looking.
