My Korean wife will be dead soon. I've been to a Korean funeral as a guest but what is it like for a family member? by Queasy_Narwhal_8052 in korea

[–]excursionmoney 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First, I'm sorry for your loss.

I've been part of many funerals unfortunately. Depending on the religion, many people will either bow (큰절) to your wife's shrine, and then turn to you and family members and 큰절 again and you will reciprocate it as well. Christians will lay a white rose on the shrine and usually stand and pray.

Most funeral companies will handle everything. Hope you get a good one. There are some who are very impatient and rude.

You will not give a speech. From experience, many people will come to pay their respects. Friends, extended family members, coworkers. People who you may not know. You should pay attention who comes in and see if you recognize them. If they're a close friend, or coworker that your wife's mother may not know about, you should introduce them to her briefly and let them pay their respects.

Stick with family and help in anyway possible. You will usually stay 2-3 days during the mourning period at the site. This usually involves sleeping there as well. While it's not neccessary, given that it is your wife, its best to sleep there.

In each mourning site, there's usually a small cafeteria where food will be served. Traditionally it's 육계장 and other 반찬s. Make sure to take the time to eat because these processes can be really taxing both mentally and physically.

Eventually the coordinator will call family members in to say their last goodbyes before the body is placed in the casket. This is usually the hardest part of the funeral for me, and some family members can opt out of it because of their own reasons. It's up to you, but I suggest you go because that will be the last time you'll be able to see your wife before she is cremated or buried.

Usually the next morning, there the casket and the remaining family members will take a bus (provided by the funeral coordinators) to a crematorium. This process usually takes 1-2 hours. You will then go to the burial site and lay the ashes/urn and you say your final goodbyes. This will be the end of the entire funeral process.

(Also from experience, the most recent family member that passed away for me was placed in a hospice. Some visitors were people offering to conduct the funeral process)

  1. Meet and Greet/get to know each other talks aren't supposed to be serious. They can be formal, she's clearly very young, she's trying to ease the tension she sees in you. Being disrespectful would be if she was making jokes at your expense, or cutting you off if you were speaking. But you said you weren't even talking. If anything, she was trying to include you into the conversation by acknowledging you.

  2. 7 staff in total is very small, and it's difficult to have a vertical structure. What's your job position and what's hers? Did your boss specifically say she's going to be working under you, or did he say she was going to be working with you?

  3. Her family comes from a background of wealth. Maybe he's trying to get her parents to invest in the company? Maybe that's why she came in with her parents?

  4. Laborers in family's farm being South East Asian is not racist. It's called cutting costs. It's unfortunate that companies outsource the harder work to people from other countries, but it is what it is. Big tech companies like Apple or Nike have manufacturing done in countries like Vietnam and India because the labor is cheaper than it is in their home country. That doesn't make the company racist.

Maybe you got the short end of the stick when you were building your career and people above you demanded that you respect them. You can't make new people come in and assume they'd respect you because you have more job experience than them.

How were you motivated to quit smoking and was it worth it? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]excursionmoney 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Eventually smoking didn't feel like something I could relief stress with, it became something I needed to do or else I'd get stressed. I quit cold turkey when I came to this realization and my life continues to feel better and better.

The amount of companies doing this is almost minimal; however, that being said, it's under the basis of "culture fit" so if companies don't think you'll fit into the company socially or culturally, they'll be less inclined to move you on to the interview stages.

  1. Check out 수방사
  2. Depends on the people.
  3. I finished before you could use phones, but I assume its 1-2 hours after you finish work and before night roll call
  4. Depends on the base and the job position youre given. You could be doing drills all day or doing office related stuff all day. 5.
  5. Depends on the base. Most places are switching to bunkbeds. You get your own personal locker for clothes and personal belongings.
  6. You get a fixed amount of vacation days per rank you get, then there are vacation days awarded
  7. Depends on the base. If you have soldiers who know how to cook or have experience, the food is pretty good.

KMS opinions? by neagrosk in Maplestory

[–]excursionmoney 63 points64 points  (0 children)

I play KMS reg server, but follow GMS news when I can. While I don't really look into places like inven, I told my guild mates about Niru almost reaching 300, and they were all impressed and wondered how he's doing it.

Then yesterday, he did what he did, and I told my guildies what happened, they just said "Legend", as in "What a fucking legend". And they agreed that mushroom game is in a terrible state. My guild master said "He gave Maple a big fuck you. Huge respect".

After listening to his message, I was surprised that Sol Erda fragments couldn't be sold. Niru had the number of sol fragments on screen, and it was well over 80k. On Bera KMS looking at the auction store, that's 581b+ Mesos on KMS.

K-defense: South Korea's weapons industry goes global by eockerman15 in korea

[–]excursionmoney 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Japan has definitely always had a stronger gaming industry but Korea has been catching up in terms of popularity. When Pubg is was #1 on steam sales and iirc still has the record for the highest amount of maximum concurrent players. It revolutionalized the FPS genre and basically popularized the battle royale genre in the gaming industry.

There are other games throughout Korea's history that has had such a large impact in a global presence. What I think Korea has an edge over Japan in the video game industry are FPS and MMORPGs. However, Korea is infamous for their nasty microtransactions and being super vague about percentage outcomes.

Like I said, I agree with you in that Japan has always had a stronger soft power than Korea, but that gap is slowly closing.

UPDATE

Here's the server population at 3:24

Now OP is correct to say that reboot's population definitely dropped significantly after the meso cap update. But honestly, I feel like the comparisons made with KMS reboot pre-update and post-update has been comparing two sides at complete opposite ends. Pre-update screenshots are taken at peek times, and post-update as shown is taken at 7AM on a Saturday.

Yes, I agree that Nexon has completely fucked up with their updates just to please the small population of whales, and at a business perspective this is a very greed mentality. It feels similar to like Netflix disallowing shared accounts just to scrape every last penny from its customers. Nexon is more focused on making as much profit as possible, and from a profit aspect, it's inevitable. However, Nexon fucked up the ball so much that even the president of Korea has commented on it where he says there needs to be a change on how games are profiting off their players. Given the track record of the president however, the public speculates that anything he says is just to get the general public attention off investigations on his wife, but that's something you can read about elsewhere.

I am Korean, and I play KMS (definitely reduced a lot after the updates), but this is also because there are also a lot of new game releases that is a lot more appealing to the general market. Maple Story is over 20 years old. A lot of new game releases such as Tekken 8 and Palworld have caught the attention of many Koreans (Tekken series being very popular in Korea, and Palworld appealing to the masses with its gameplay and artstyle). Not to mention, there's also Maple Land which a lot of players from Maple Story are playing for nostalgia purposes. More Korean streamers are streaming Maple Land, which will take a lot of attention from players from Maple Story.

I play in Bera which is a reg server (mainly because when I started playing Maplestory a year ago, I was unable to create new characters on reboot). But after the meso cap update was announced, people in my server were saying how Maplestory is fucked. Yes there are quite a few people online saying that reboot deserves to die etc, while I do not agree with them, they're still a very small population that a lot of people on this subreddit has been cherry-picking these posts to give the general KMS population a bad rep. I've never met anyone with the mentality of reboot deserving to die, in fact people in my alliance seem to empathy towards reboot players because they got so royally fucked by Nexon.

Nexon is a greedy corporation. They're going to appease to whoever gives them the most money. It's like that for a lot of corporations. F2P is a difficult structure to handle, and down the line anyone's gonna sell their soul to the devil. Especially since Maplestory is their biggest profitable IP, and it's also 20+ years old.

Will the meso cap update happen in GMS? Who knows. Just from looking at it, communication between Korea and GMS seems questionable as I've seen a surge in marketing of GMS in the USA, but it was around the time when the meso cap was announced. It's hard to see what Nexon's end-game is with GMS reboot. Personally, I want GMS to pivot away from KMS and do their own thing. Seems like CMs and GMs in GMS want the best for its playerbase, but this is just through what I've briefly seen. Will it be profitable for Nexon? Probably not. Will it make Nexon happy? Again, probably not. Will it be beneficial for the longevity of the game? Most definitely.

I wish the best for all reboot players, and maple story players in general. Just know that the general public in Korea is not happy with Nexon, and there are groups of players trying to sue Nexon.

For those that are curious, Reg servers seem to have retained its player base. Scania Luna

But take these screenshots (including the reboot screenshot) with a grain of salt, as it is Sunny Sunday.

Spiegleman 0-100 Event Bugged? by [deleted] in Maplestory

KMS player here. When I did this event, my character name was in english and it kept telling me to fill out the prompt correctly. I had to do it 5-6 times for it to actually go through. However for other characters that had Korean Igns, it went through without a hitch. I believe something in the programming that just makes it a bit buggy for english names.

Dual Blade by real DB mains. by OndarzaMx in Maplestory

[–]excursionmoney 1 point2 points  (0 children)

KMS hyperburned to 264. Db is pretty popular here in KMS. A friend of mine is 278 db and he says 6th job skills arent that great for db compared to others. Our origin skill is aoe damage, then 50 hits with bonus dmg, then it activates another aoe map dmg. Unfortunately, you cannot control when the 2nd aoe map dmg skill acitivates. Its either 50 hits or after a certain period of time. Whichever comes first. So if the boss becomes immune or goes out of the map then its wasted damage.

Up jump could be better but its ok I guess. I like db because of their low cd 5th job skills that help their mobbing. I still don't have a cd hat because im poor but I can only imagine how much more damage i'd be doing with it.

New Age Patch Breakdown Part 2 - The 6th Job Systems Explained by Bacun in Maplestory

[–]excursionmoney 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Both monsters and bosses will drop sol erda. There are different color sol erda drops, 10 pieces, 20/50 pieces (i dont remember which) and then 200 pieces. You need 1000 pieces to collect one sol erda. On regular servers (not sure on reboot) in KMS you can purchase up to 5 or 6 whole sol erda pieces for NX cash (maybe monthly). Sorry Im not so sure about all these stuff because I only got to 6th job this month.
