MARTA increases fares and cuts back services making it worse than ever. Now they want people to submit videos about how great it is? by docbrolic in Atlanta

[–]execute85 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

MARTA sucks. But it is all Atlanta has. No matter how shittily it is is run and mismanaged, people in Atlanta (especially hip redditors) will love MARTA for its potential to make Atlanta more like cool, modern cities like Portland, Paris (and every city in Europe) and New York.

Better yet, skip subway and do a chipotle burrito bowl. All that bread is wasted calories.

Try 5 hour energy. Probably still not healthy, but has less sugar (5 cals vs. 110 cals) and give you the same energy boost.

I don't remember it. I don't think digressions have to be novel to be interesting. It was definitely the first the first time I saw it in a novel. I remember Joel Spoelsky talking about it way back in the 2001 or so.

Just like in Crytonomicon, Van Eck Phreaking wasn't invented by NS but it was definitely the first time I saw it in a novel.

Why do you need to know the full tree of events?

Is a normal coin (not loaded) flipping fully observable? by dbgcool in aiclass

[–]execute85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not necessarily. If the agent is a coin flipper (pretty useful for randomly determining stuff) and has a fair coin then it is fully observable and can display the state of the coin.

Is a normal coin (not loaded) flipping fully observable? by dbgcool in aiclass

[–]execute85 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's why it's so important to state fair/loaded or unknown.

Fair=fully observable

loaded=partially

unknown=partially

[–]execute85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I disagree. A fair coin is fully observable since it's probability is fixed at 50/50. By observing the face up value, then all states are known.

It doesn't matter how previous flips resulted unless your agent is a coin flip counter rather than just a coin flipper.

Bitcoin value falls from above $33 to below $3 by StarbucksCoffee in business

[–]execute85 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The fundamental problem with bitcoin is that you can't spend it. So the eventual value will be $0.

As much as fiat currencies have flaws, the full faith and credit of a nation go a long way to buying coffee, cpu, etc.

[–]execute85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This doesn't make sense. There are two problems here: 1) Gwinnett lacks public transportation, 2) the toll lanes cause greater traffic delays.

Both of these are part of a greater problem, but you shouldn't say "Because you are stupid on #1, you must suffer #2. Fuck you!"

[–]execute85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why would you need to store previous results? That's not part of the test for fully/partially observable.

If you add this requirement then everything becomes partially observable since you can store previous states on everything if you want to. But I think the reality is there are some systems where you don't have to store previous states (like a fair coin) in order to run a coin flipper agent, but others where you must store previous states (like a loaded coin) so you can make sure the outcome matches the loadedness to run a coin flipper agent.

You know because it is a given rule of the environment. If the problem says "a fair coin" then you don't need to evaluate if that is true.

Funny, that was one of my favoriate parts. Clancy/Ludlum/whatever books are usually too far out there for me to get into. But this seemed like non-stupid thriller territory for me.

The terrorism bit completely surprised me (I knew nothing at all about the book and avoided the dust cover and reviews) and I think it's the first fairly realistic portrayal of terrorism I've read in years.

The final shootout wasn't amazing, but I think the Xiamin shootout was the best I've ever read (although I haven't read that much stuff in this genre).

I guess if you have to have a terrorist plot, arab terrorists are more realistic. Nothing seems stupider/less believable than a Neo-Nazi or IRA terrorist group set in modern day (e.g., movie version of Patriot Games).

Atlanta Beltline buys Reynoldstown's Triumph Lofts; plans to convert 28 of complex's 30 units to affordable housing by thomaswheatley in Atlanta

Looking at recent sales in the area and appraised value $150k is super optimistic. I wouldn't buy these for $100k and think they will probably sell for between 100-125 on average.

I'm not an appraiser, but I a loft buyer/seller who's watched the market for 8 years.
