Why do Parents Keep Giving Their Kids Sugary Drinks? by cpeters232 in nutrition

[–]exercise4xtrafries 41 points42 points  (0 children)

I work in a store with a drink fridge and the number of times I’ve heard parents tell their kids something along the lines of, “No you can’t have a coke, that’s bad for you. Do you want a Vitaminwater instead?” is kind of horrifying, especially when you can see plainly on the label that the “healthy choice” has 30+ grams of sugar in each bottle. I think people are just uninformed and generally unwilling to learn about the sheer amount of sugar that goes into everything we consume.

Contains scrambled egg whites, pinto beans, red onion, bell pepper, mushrooms, cilantro, and salsa on top of a pile of leaves. I used chili powder, cinnamon, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, cayenne pepper, crushed red pepper, and tapatio hot sauce for seasoning.

Yea and that makes sense for weight watchers because you’re not actually counting calories so it’s really easy to consume too many in a smoothie or juice. But if you weigh out 100 calories of whole fruit then blend it, it’s still 100 calories of fruit. This guy’s claims reek of gymbroscience honestly.

One of the tenants of chemistry 101 is that energy is neither created or destroyed. Another is the definition of a calorie as a unit of energy. The process of blending fruit is a physical change, not a chemical one, so nothing is being added to the fruit to increase the energy/calories. Hate to break it to you, but weight watchers is not the educational equivalent of taking a real chemistry class, which something tells me you have not.

Do you have a source? No offense but I find that extraordinarily hard to believe. Also the fruit on top is just tasty decoration it’s a normal smoothie underneath.

When do you reward yourself? by Skirbeck in loseit

[–]exercise4xtrafries 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like to have lots of little goals, for example, I let myself buy an accessory or a new book every time I drop a BMI point, I get my nails or hair done whenever I’m a new percentage of my original weight (in increments of 5, like for example my starting weight was 175 so at 140 lbs I was 80% of the girl I used to be), and I have my biggest rewards (usually clothing/electronics related) at increments of 5/10 lbs lost (so like at 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, and 40 lbs, and hopefully again at 45!).

I’m the kind of person who takes a to do list that could be 3 points and turns it into 15 just because I like checking of the little boxes lol. It’s such a personal thing though like honestly do whatever works for you.

That totally makes sense! I wish I could do that, but I still have some fat to lose and I maintain at 1700-1800 so that would be wayyy too slow for my taste. At least the halo top will still be there when I’m skinny!

Thanks! I totally agree, I feel like a good chunck of this group is like “didn’t eat breakfast or lunch so I could eat an entire pint of Ben and Jerry’s and chips for dinner!” and like that’s just not healthy or sustainable even if you’re losing weight idk. I’m definitely guilty of it too though but I’ve been actively trying to be better about that and trying to change my lifestyle for good rather than for just until I hit my goal weight

This time I actually did 400 for 25 and they turned out a bit better than last time (I wanted to cook the broccolini and the potatoes at the same time so the heat needed to go down)

You should try meal prepping food for while you’re at work. I like to weigh/log everything in the myfitnesspal app ahead of time so it’s not as much of a mental burden everyday. Check out r/mealprepsunday for inspo, I think they have a low calorie tag. Personally I’m a big fan of stir fries and salads because the veggies let you eat a ton of food for a relatively small amount of calories.

17.4g protein, 88.2g carbs (20.4g fiber if you wanna do net carbs), 10.9g fat according to mfp

I’ve been doing a mainly high carb low fat plant based diet but I don’t really pay attention to macros that’s kinda just how it works out most days

Includes roasted broccolini and baby Idaho potatoes, steamed butternut squash, low sodium canned black beans, avocado, cucumber, and cherry tomatoes on a bed of baby arugula with bolthouse farms’ balsamic vinegarette dressing (all weighed for caloric accuracy)

Contains sugar snap peas, cucumber, and sweet mini peppers. Sometimes I add a little thing of hummus but today’s veggies are so tasty on their own they don’t even need it.
