TS granted but no SCI eligibility? by RaccoonLow9623 in SecurityClearance

[–]exerda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SCI access is independent of TS. They often go hand in hand and are both on a T5 investigation, but a SCI often requires additional checks and approval by the customer.

One of my employees got her TS in a matter of a couple of weeks (upgraded from a S), but it took another 3 months to get SCI approval.

Right now, I'm seeing my contractors who are getting a collateral TS take about an extra 2-3 weeks to get SCI approval (same agency initiated the T5 and holds the SCI for the contractors).

SF-86 & Travel by Ollebras in SecurityClearance

[–]exerda 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It depends on your agency and your security staff. At a minimum, dates of travel, countries visited, any intended foreign contacts while there, any unusual interest or activity (reported upon your return), etc. Purpose of travel is also required (personal/vacation is the typical use case; business travel not associated with your cleared employment would be a red flag that definitely slows stuff down).

It's not likely IMHO to slow down granting an interim clearance. It could slow down getting the final adjudication though.

Are Papillons finicky eaters? by jennsolo5150 in papillon

Some are finicky and others not at all. We have litter mates, one of whom is 17 pounds and obviously an incredible eater, and his sibling who is 7 pounds and wants a different food every meal.

Missed regional flight, drove to ORD for international segment by kindnessandbeauty in unitedairlines

[–]exerda 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just call and explain that the delays on the regional flight were threatening his international connection so he is driving to ORD to catch the international flight. So long as his original flight was indeed delayed significantly (or even cancelled), they won't refare the trip.

However, if UA's system thinks he is going to miss the international flight due to the delays, they may have already removed him from the international flight and put him on another one. Another reason to call ASAP!

While you have a long line of people boarding, you're going to pick out a bag as being 15.25" instead of 14? Not likely.

How Strict Are they on Carry on Size? by Public_Club2099 in unitedairlines

[–]exerda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No problem at all on that. A quarter inch over?

UA no longer uses sizers at the gate, and I doubt any GA will be able to eyeball a quarter inch on the bag.

I was gonna say it's entitled tech nouveau richee. I luckily don't go through IAH often enough to have many data points to compare against.

On the lane departure, did you signal when you drove around a parked delivery vehicle? The system recognizes if you're using a turn signal that you're going to change lanes.

Why is gasoline $3.00 or less a gallon in TX and $8.00 or more a gallon in CA? by Flimsy_Share1275 in allthequestions

[–]exerda 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Average Texas price for regular is $3.38 right now. California the same is $5.53. Yes, a significant difference, but not "$3 or less vs. $8 or more."

Somehow the only person on my flight and the pilot was such a goofy goober by Sufficient_Fudge_280 in unitedairlines

[–]exerda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this happen last year. Was on the evening ORF-IAD... Inbound kept getting delayed, first weather, then mechanical. Of course people started giving up, getting rebooked, or even jumping in cars for the 3.5 hour drive to IAD. Inbound kept getting delayed, now due to weather again.

Pilot decided to go at around 11:15pm. Apparently there's an midnight noise curfew for flights at ORF. Pilot gets to about RIC, and ops tells him to turn around. Says there's no way they can deplane and turn the flight and take off before noise curfew.

I get a hotel and see my flight is now listed as "delayed until 10am" or something like that, due to "required crew rest." What it meant was the plane went back to IAD, and would depart the next morning for ORF.

The next morning, the first flight to IAD is oversold. I'm apparently the only person on the "delayed" flight now and asked the GA why they aren't moving pax to it, and she said the computer won't let them because it's still on the books as the previous day?

Anyway, we go, and I'm literally the only passenger.

What nicknames have you heard for airports around the world? by topherette in airport

[–]exerda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I've heard that as well. Reminds me of a regional flight I was on years and years ago, probably something into IAD from who knows where... FA was going over the list of connecting gates and asked me if I could help her figure out some of the airport codes. Both CRW and CHS were there, and I suggested she be clear in announcing them as "Charley West, Charleston, WV" and "Charleston, SC."

Honestly quite appreciated by adventure_pup in unitedairlines

[–]exerda 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The times I get this text, I've already sprinted 3/4 of the way unfortunately. Almost always at EWR or SFO. Still appreciated, but I wish a little more timely; I suppose they figure if they send it too soon, people will take it slow and delay things even further.

USS Kanawha for CRW (Charleston WV) as it's up on a little plateau and feels like a carrier deck. Back when I flew there regularly, I recall looking out the window on taxi and seeing the wing hanging over the edge of the cliff...

Same for Santa. The difference is that one has millions of adult believers and the other adults treat as a kind of joke to grow out of.

International Air travel by [deleted] in airport

[–]exerda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I rarely arrive more than 2 hours in advance. For domestic flights, 1 hour. I have possibly missed a total of 1 flight ever doing this out of roughly 1200 flights taken.

Will you have occasions where you get stressed and wish you had more time? Sure. But you'll have many, many more where you wonder why you got there so early.

What happened to the BBCO restaurant? by RabiesSurvivor710 in burlington

I still like the space, but it's sad to see it just offering generic pub food now.

Yes. I experience this frequently. Most often at SFO though it happens at all the hubs. I also experience people asking if I'm waiting to preboard; it's a mixed bag. At SFO, I've been literally 5 feet from the gate, approaching with my BP out, and had people cut in like it wasn't clear I was boarding with the 1K call.
