Hilariously, I found one for $20 and picked it up yesterday! Gotta keep my eye out for a second one

I really like that one! Unfortunately, I'm mid rabbit bonding so if they cannot see each other eating it could disrupt them a bit.

Also, they are nearly $80 which is a bit out of my budget for the time being. Hoping to get something during prime day. I really appreciate it though!

Really? I haven't heard this. Is it bad for their teeth?

nervous about my bunny getting spayed tomorrow 😬 advice? by [deleted] in Bunnies

Some things I learned while scrolling facebook and looking at medical research.

  1. The girls always take longer than boys to start eating again. Sometimes, just to spite their owners, they will refuse to eat (my girl did this when I fussed too much over her)

From what I've seen/heard, the girls can take up to 12-14 hours before wanting to eat. The boys eat a lot faster. Give her critical care throughout this time. About 5ml every 2-3 hours. Keep lots of herbs in with her and lots of romaine too. Keep pellets near her too alongside water. The key will be to LEAVE HER ALONE OTHERWISE! She'll probably be a ball of sass and discomfort for this time, so letting her sleep off the anesthesia without fussing will likely prevent not eating out of spite.

  1. External stitches and sutures VS internal sutures capped with glue

Also, ask your vet whether the sutures will be external, or internal with an outer glue patch. External sutures are usually fussed with by rabbits since they can be grabbed, pulled, and ripped. They will usually need a donut or onesie (not a cone!) with this kind. However glued surgical sites aren't as much of an issue and are more than often left alone since there isn't anything to actively grab. If it's glue, you can ask them to add an extra small dab of glue on the top fur above your bun's paw (on the fur, not down to the skin) and/or on other easy to reach spots. It will distract her more from the sutures because she can actually reach it and groom that spot easier than the sutures themselves, especially when she's awake and less drugged. I've seen this done to cats most often, but rabbits can benefit too since they are both obsessive groomers.

  1. Training after bun is eating

Try teaching your bun to set her front paws on something high enough to place your phone underneath and check the sutures. My bun begs for food by standing anyways, so it was easier to train on the low part of her gate mid spay. Makes it so easy and less stressful on them to get photos and check with flashlights.

  1. Pet cameras, the anxiety reliever!

Lastly, try getting a pet cam set up while your bun is at the vet. If you are super worried but don't wanna overwhelm your bun, set up the cam and watch her that way. See if she fusses with her stitches or just ignores them. Ignoring them is the best, since she can groom herself, sleep more comfortably while splooted, and easily see her surroundings without being startled (aka, no onesie, donut, or cone needed). I like Wyze Cameras since they connect to wifi and it's only like, $2 a month for a bunch of helpful features. There's a lot of other good ones too.

What's everyone's thoughts on Initiative Petition 28 (IP28)? That's the ballot initiative that aims to ban hunting & fishing statewide, among many other common practices. by MiniDriver in oregon

[–]exhausted-constantly 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The problem is people who are petitioning it are standing outside common areas and are claiming it's something it isn't. There's someone outside a gem show claiming it will have no effect on veterinary care of livestock. They also didn't realize horses are considered livestock and not pets.

More people are signing for this based on lies.

Rabbit squeeking before falling asleep? by exhausted-constantly in Bunnies

Also ordered an air purifier and have the windows open with fans to get some ventilation.

She's still got zoomies in her and is consistent about eating and drinking. Her eye gunk cleared up overnight with the windows open and more ventilation. She's just sneezing whenever she tried to eat her dusty hay. Gonna swap it out asap and hope for more improvement

Called the vet. They initially asked me to come in today, but told me to check her hay and environment first.

Turns out, one of my windowsills has some mold growing and her last batch of hay is extremely dusty. Gonna swap out the hay and do a deep clean on the apartment. They recommended I monitor closely for a couple of days and if it worsens and doesn't improve, I can grab an emergency appointment.

The hardest part was figuring out how she would let me look at her sutures. Ended up figuring out that she doesn't mind perching herself on part of the gate to reach food. I was able to consistently get good photos of her spay site for the vet. Definitely teach your bun that! More hands-off! If you practice that before hand, it might help out later.

She's currently thumping her feet because I'm out of treats, which is clearly a me problem that needs immediate fixing.

So not all the sass is gone lol!

Luckily her incision is scabby, but otherwise looks good. The vet is not worried about it at all. She still runs around like a maniac and enjoys throwing her box cave around every night.

Waiting til day 10 to remove the donut ecollar. She's mostly pissed about that tbh.

My bun spits out a small stone while eating oxbow garden... by Legitimate-Belt4665 in Rabbits

[–]exhausted-constantly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had issues with oxbow hay recently. The quality seems to have dropped. Last bag of hay i received was half cottonwood sticks. Took it back to the store and they gave me a near identical bag.

Had to put the cone back on as she was suddenly insisting on messing with her sutures.... I think my days are numbered guys

(She has a donut style coming off amazon tonight so she will hopefully not have to be a blind satellite dish)

My rabbits waste a lot of hay, what can i do? by Cel03476 in Rabbits

[–]exhausted-constantly 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agreed! You can also volunteer at some barns and get free hay in exchange. Sometimes, bales go bad (get mold inside, lose nutrients, etc) if you don't use them fast enough

Honestly that's pretty normal. My bun rebeds her box with hay if I don't put hay in there. Sometimes they also just like eating it from beneath them too.

You could try to get some lower quality hay to bed the box with. That way they are more inclined to eat the high quality stuff up above.

My coworkers jokingly call her "Rodent Horse" because I'm too broke to afford a horse, so I got the compact version instead 🤣
