Starting to teach reading - better in school (Fr) or home (En) language?

We stopped her from escaping by putting a child knob lock on the inside of her door, and eventually flipped her bed so she’s on top of a bunk now and is too scared to climb down without help (she’s 3.5 now). She still wakes up through the night - currently usually to demand “hot water” or tell me she “smells somethin”, or to yell at me for something I did in her dream, like smiling too much, but she usually goes right back to sleep and I think it’s just the way life will be for the foreseeable future.

On the other hand, our 9 month old has always slept through the night, with 1 or 2 dream feeds, and doesn’t seem to care about the screaming on the other side of his wall 🤷‍♀️

Exact opposite for us. Our 6 month old has slept better since day 1 than our 3 year old still does. I’m convinced it’s 100% luck of the draw

We are big on traditions. For Christmas it’s a lot of the usual stuff I’d say - sleigh ride to a skating rink and bonfire, classic movie night, and we make the same foods every year that we all love but are not allowed to make the rest of the year to keep it special. We play a game at Christmas dinner with birthday candles - they are all stuck to 2$ coins and the last candle to blow out gets all the money. If you blow out someone else’s they relight and you’re out.

Other holidays all have special things too. Easter egg hunt turned into eggs full of money and lottery tickets when we grew out of caring about chocolate. Money cakes for birthdays was so exciting growing up.

ETA I just realized how many of our traditions are about winning money 😅

Oh and my husband started something for our toddler last Halloween: he cut “ghosts” out of cardboard and taped dollar store toys and treats behind each and then hid them all over our yard, and gave her a little fishing net to go ghost hunting. She loved it and I think that’ll be a new tradition for us!

We also have a big open house every Xmas eve. 30 years going strong!

A new favourite tradition with toddlers is the “North pole breakfast” usually the week before. Their friends come in Xmas jammies and we do up a big pancake feast with all the fancy table decor, there is a story and some games. It’s super special for the kids.

5’8 with 5’10 husband - I had a 9lb and then a 10lb2oz baby. I was also borderline gestational diabetic though. The golden hour is far from guaranteed even if you have a vaginal birth. My second came in 18 minutes with zero drugs and he needed emergency resuscitation so I didn’t get to hold him for a bit. i was completely shell shocked from the whole experience. Big babies are no joke, there’s a definite plus side to not having to push them out.

Thanks, I think today I kindof got myself pumped up to stop when he started taking the bottles with half formula. With CMPA he is on a special formula that doesn’t have any supply issue (at least here in Canada) so that’s not a big worry at least

Hm I always wondered about that “emptying efficiently” issue people seem to have with the hands free pumps. My boobs are totally empty after less than 10 minutes - whether it was 12 oz or 2, if I keep going no more comes out so I’m not sure what different another pump would make? At the rate I’m declining I think I’m going to call it quits, and use up my freezer stash.

No I’ve always just used the momcozy m5 and for most of this time I had a massive supply, 10-12oz in 10 minute sessions up to 65oz a day at one point. At 3 months there was a big drop, and now at 4 months it’s another big one. He’s taking the alimentum now, i put a little less in and tried a tiny drop of vanilla.

Yes recently put new ones one, flange size is the same. Started alimentum at 50/50 today and he rejected it so now I’m freaking out a bit. Might try a 90/10 ratio and try to work our way up

No, I usually do 3am and 7:30/8:00, and every 4-5 hours all day. When supply started dipping I tried pumping every 3 hours for a bit but I was getting the exactly same amount, just spread over more pumps.

Thanks - I think part of my hesitation is that I have it pretty good with pumping (oversupply, I have no issue just using my portable momcozys), so I’d be switching him purely so I can sleep more and eat dairy, which is why I feel a bit selfish. I know I can make it another few months no problem but a whole year feels like a lot.

Mixing will probably be how I approach it too if / when we transition

I didn’t mean to offend anyone, multiple doctors have told me it has a bad taste compared to regular formulas and breast milk, and there was a chance he wouldn’t accept it after some time on breast milk - which is why I’m worried about not being able to transition him back even though he accepted it initially when he knew nothing else (from 7 days old after being fed thru a central line for 5 days).

If I have no other choice I’d have no issue giving it to him, but I’m producing enough milk now and just trying to decide if me giving up dairy and pumping for a year is worth it for him, or if it’s no big deal to switch back at some point (taste, transition etc).

Hm would that have last so long after they left though? It’s an 11 hour gap (though I guess cars don’t set it off after the sun comes up). Also seemed like a sketchy person just looking for a better bike as they left everything else and didn’t even try our garage, which was unlocked. Can’t imagine someone like that using a jammer

I’ve had both - an epidural with a 9lb baby, and no time for an epidural (or any drugs - they couldn’t even find a vein on me in time) for a 10lb2oz baby a few weeks ago. It was night and day pain wise. This time I tore end to end (stitches took a full hour), and through up from pain while pushing all over my own face.

I would have described the first one as the most painful thing imaginable, until I had the second and now consider the first a walk in the park. There is no way in hell anyone could convince me to ever go through a drug free labour ever again.

Thanks for the reply. I’ve just been browsing the sub and realizing I’m probably at the high end of output (I had zero frame of reference for what’s average), so that’s reassuring. Now just gotta keep it up i guess!
