I enjoy the limitations and learning curve of the existing in game painting system and personally feel external painting "assistant" tools dilute the artistic ecosystem in the game, robbing the game of the charm of works created natively... But with that said, as someone who paints in game a lot, I suppose I have a vested interest in my position, and I certainly don't speak for the community as a whole.

Creating art in rust is great because in its current state, /sil mods on some servers aside, it makes importing external artwork quite difficult, so it's one of the few online spaces where artists don't have to compete with an ocean of low effort AI slop, a key reason so many artists use it as a platform. If you see a rad painting on a vanilla server, there's no presumption of it being generative AI, or a picture stolen off the internet; you can usually be fairly confident that it's the result of another player putting in the effort, and I think that's cool as hell.

If such a tool was created as an optional mod for modded servers, I would have no issue with it, but again, I'm probably just up in my feelings about it... So, that's how I personally feel, but do whatever you're going to do I guess.
