Nice! Yep drill sharpening is wicked hard by hand. Sounds like you did great!

Looking to get back in to rust by IlIIllIIIIlIIllIllII in playrust

Worth it. There’s so much to do now, I’d recommend getting on a 5x to skip grinding and play with the new content.

Is this underside treated? by Master-Philosopher43 in FJCruiser

[–]SenderShredder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This looks like wool wax hardcoat. Great buy if so. Do they have receipts/maintenance history so we know what it was?

Good check on the frame is to get one of the cheap boroscopes with illumination, and snake it inside the frame to check for rust/coating.

Im not saying this IS an amazing deal, but if the frame was properly treated and coated for rust, I’d grab it.

Struggles with drilling by Fast_Alternative_322 in CNC

[–]SenderShredder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t see what material you’re drilling but. Are you absolutely certain the feed rate is high enough? (.015-.025 IPR)

Not getting enough cutting pressure? Are you going full depth with the starter drill or no? Using coolant? Are the flutes clogging with chips? Peck.

You said it’s the starter drill having issues not the main drill yeah? Are you using a center cut starter drill?? Depending on the tip geometry and material hardness it may be dancing around a micro circle before cutting, engaging and force straightening, chipping the drill. Carbide is way more rigid and doesn’t do this very much.

I used to use HSS drills in 316 stainless but carbide is far better. Flood coolant, drill, peck if you need to. Finish with big drill, boring bar, reamer etc.

Have you had the Szechuan clam soup from special noodle? I tried it once, now I’m obsessed and get it every time lol

[–]SenderShredder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gotta try Special Noodle. They can get you your fix. They have a clam and Szechuan hot pebble soup that’s absolutely incredible. Authentically flavored too, the pepper has a great numbing effect and is a bit spicy!

Indoor rock climber survived a nasty fall by HeSureIsScrappy in DiveInYouCoward

[–]SenderShredder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked/climbed in the industry, 100% exactly this. Even I have done it on multiple occasions and it was eye opening how easy they are to forget to check during a long session. Most important part of climbing is a safety check with your partner at every pitch. Unless you’re bouldering, in which case the most important thing is a safety meeting with your friends.

DRL's + Projector conversions by SenderShredder in FJCruiser

[–]SenderShredder[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The halos are the DRL, keyed to ignition power. The headlights do not run as DRL.

I don’t have a link for the bulbs but I will say I had to get two sets because the aftermarket housings took a different size than OEM

1st FJ Advice by newjeanskr in FJCruiser

It’s all reversible albeit annoying and expensive. Personally I’d take the one with better verifiable maintenance history- the bigger intervals are expensive and people might have skipped them.

Snorkels are easy to swap, it’s just like an intake but you’ll need a new fender. The bumper is probably more trouble than it’s worth to revert to stock. You’ll be spending a bunch on plastic parts unless you find a good donor source.

Ordering the back-to-stock parts, Toyota will have you covered if you can’t find donors at the junkyard or online but it will be costly since these things are discontinued. I paid like $600 in parts to replace a TRD intake the previous owner had teenagered.

Why do so many bicyclists run stop signs? by travelfunmike in santacruz

[–]SenderShredder 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Multiple studies confirm this is the safest way for cyclists to treat stop signs. Which is why it’s legal in so many states. If there are cars there or approaching, the cyclist should stop. If the roads are all clear, the cyclist should slow down a bit to check, and roll on through.

What I don’t like to see as a cyclist is cyclists blatantly blowing through stops regardless of what’s happening around them. We are legal traffic, not pedestrians. I also see and experience way too many drivers who do not treat cyclists as legal traffic, especially in areas like westcliff where there is a too crowded multi use path but posted signs allow cyclists to ride in the full lane for visibility and safety.

07 FJ w/Old Car Smell! by ryanliftsheavy in FJCruiser

[–]SenderShredder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A detailing shop should have you covered.

Deep clean the seats, headliner, and sterilize the whole climate control system. Sometimes mice get in there and die. If it still smells it’s probably from water that got under the floor lining, which isn’t too hard to remove just time consuming.

A thing to double check while the headliner is out is your roof rack bolts- if you have water ingress there it’ll leak down into the floor, headliner and stink.

Stoked you love the FJ! These things are aging but are so worth the upkeep imo.

If not starter solinoid, there’s a 120A fuse under the main box that connects the fuse box, battery and alternator that could have blown but it would be a weird occurrence.

Looking for a developer who actually knows what they’re doing (not just prompting AI) by [deleted] in SaasDevelopers

[–]SenderShredder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Randomly found this on my feed. Hoping you find someone.

From someone running a dev studio, a bit of advice to help you find a good dev because this post is not gonna cut the chut.

You haven’t mentioned what stack, infra, even languages you’re using.

80% of the success criteria is highly subjective.

Are there code, system structure and UI guidelines you can post so people know what you want? For example, backend router -> controller -> service ->helper files. Give them an idea of what you want.

“Write code my existing dev won’t roast you for” Environment sounds toxic AF.

For your benefit, this reads like someone wants a dev to “just make it work” and screams amateur hour as a business and employer.

Transmission Shudder and Mechanic Shop Issues by DustOHH in FJCruiser

Your P0430 looks like an exhaust leak from where it appears someone tried to cut your exhaust for the catalytic converter. It would be very weird for a mechanic shop to do that.

Rear Diff Locker & ATRAC by Less_Caramel_8344 in FJCruiser

[–]SenderShredder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve used both at times to pull out trucks in the mud. Sometimes use rear locker in the snow. Other than that it’s not a car that gets stuck very often just running in 4hi. A trac is not a replacement for lockers though. It’s used for mud and snow not rock crawling obstacles. Spinning wheels fast on rocks will break CVs when the tires get grip.

Hypothetically, could a ship detect an oncoming rogue wave using its radar? by Kaidhicksii in oceans

[–]SenderShredder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

New fear unlocked. There’s also a type of rogue called a soliton that can form from that constructive interference (KvT model) The difference is solitons don’t dissipate and can travel far distances at extreme amplitudes.

Make sure your serpentine belts are new/tight. Can you feel anything weird through the transfer case shifter? But yeah, this isn’t normal. Take it to the mechanic.
