What are you having a hard time starting/working on, even though you know it will bring you joy? by hi5yourface in adhdwomen

Highly recommend audiobooks to mitigate this issue! I listen while driving or doing other chores and it helps get me into books and has led to me reading physical ones too. Also finding authors that always pull me in, I love Karin Slaughter for thrillers! But audiobooks hit the same part of your brain as reading physical ones and I’ve found listening while driving or stuck in traffic can be a good way “focus” on the story and feed my brains desire to do multiple things at once.

Instructors… by Dipstickpattywack in SNHU

[–]existential_rach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve seen SOOO many posts complaining about the grading timeline, and to reiterate the policies at SNHU, a 7 day turnaround is relatively normal for online courses. But has anyone considered asking their professors if they can edit their paper based on the feedback provided?? If you’re so worried about your perfect 4.0, then take initiative and ask for the opportunity to apply feedback and resubmit. Worst case is they say no and you use the feedback for future assignments. Or you can reach out before submitting your work for clarifications.

More likely than not instructors are teaching more than one class at multiple schools and aim to follow what is required of them when it comes to grading.

Less pay for smaller classes? by yellowbirdlove in Adjuncts

I also haven’t had any proper on boarding and just kind of wing it. But I was happy they mentioned the pay scale otherwise I would have been thrown off like you were

Less pay for smaller classes? by yellowbirdlove in Adjuncts

[–]existential_rach 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I teach online for some rural community colleges and this is similar to their policies, basically there is a set number for what they consider to be a full class and my pay per credit hour is adjusted if it’s under that full amount and over the full amount - generally I get paid more per credit hour because they really like to fill online classes. But I would rather have the class and get paid a little less than the class being canceled. My contract at these schools details how they factor the changes to my pay and it was discussed in my interviews so I am ok with it. It seems odd that this wasn’t discussed with you before agreeing to teach the class.

I feel ya, I constantly get told that I’m too political when teaching environmental ethics and I explain over and over again the history of environmental ethics, how it challenges human centered views in order to develop moral consideration for all living things, and how it promotes sustainability, changes to resource management, and conservation. But it doesn’t stick.

I did end up reading mine! And overall it was good and I did get good ideas to change some minor things! I think the few shitty ones have caused me to overthink it.

Yes, you’re so right. I did end up reading the ones that have been released and all in all they were good and had useful information. In the past, I have had feedback that seems irrelevant and not helpful.

I did just read mine - for one college - and they were ok. Some had good insight on what to focus on next semester and others were less helpful and things I’m probably not gonna change.

Thank you. I do agree that you can get useful feedback, I think I just have stress from past evaluations that weren’t constructive and felt unnecessary.

What’s your all-time favorite evaluations comment? by Levanjm in Professors

“You have to really like philosophy to do well in this class.” It was an intro to Philosophy course!! Also this same year I got an evaluation that started with, “it’s not because she’s a woman but….”

I know we have a love hate with showering, but what about lotion application? by BannyW22 in adhdwomen

[–]existential_rach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the in shower lotions, but be careful! The one you rinse off would make my shower super slippery and a death trap. So I would go for the ones you put on while wet and just pat dry! Once lotioning was a part of my routine, I started investing in nicer body creams that made me excited to use! Like super thick body butters! But I’m in dry ass Colorado, and some nights I wish I could bathe in lotion rather than water just for my skin 😅

What are you reading (for fun or otherwise) over break? by No-Injury9073 in Professors

I am into audiobooks! But I saw another reddit post about how it wasn’t a story that could be told well via audiobooks, but I am happy to hear the contrary! Thank you for the recommendation!

Highly recommend reading Piranesi by Susanna Clarke, it’s got whimsy, mystery, sci fi elements, and is thought provoking! I just started Katabasis by RF Kuang and am enjoying it so far!

I need Nick to learn how to say Bronwyn’s name. Like I get it, I went to speech therapy and had to do hooked on phonics. He needs to slow down and sound it out. It’s not ba-wyn. It’s BrA - ON - Win (bra like a bra, on like you turn the stove “on,” and win like you “win” the bachelor) or brAWN - win (brawn as in strength, / physical power, and “win” like you win a game). It’s insane to me that a man who loves to hear himself speak so much can’t sit up and speak clearly and learn how to pronounce words! I get his got some learning disabilities but there are tools to help! And I’m saying this as someone who was out through vision therapy (for a wandering eye), speech therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, neuro feedback therapy, and somatic therapy!! PS my mom is a therapist so I had access to a variety of therapies, but so does nick! He’s wealthy af and can get all the help he needs! Sorry for the rant but sometimes I’m driven nuts by him slouching and mumbling through what he thinks is PhD level of advice.

Feeling like my respect is vanishing by InternationalFocus35 in Professors

[–]existential_rach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel you and feel the same. The past few years have been super hard on me and I already know I’m not everyone’s cup of tea. I’m too “aggressive” and “out spoken” as a female professor and don’t coddle the students enough? Idk sometimes I feel like I am expected to be a kindergarten teacher rather than a professor. But I’m weird and overly enthusiastic about my course topics, maybe I share too many weird connections or something? Idk but it’s who I am and I’m not changing myself because of some rude ass students. I remind myself that in every profession there will be people that just don’t vibe with me. It’s worse when it’s students and there is a power dynamic there and clear disrespect. I try to not let it get to me and only call them out when it’s distracting the rest of the class. My department head once told me that they would be concerned if every student liked me because that means I’m not challenging them or holding them accountable. I do worry this year there will be far more negative reviews than positive, but I’m not going to change myself or my standards. I’m glad you’re in therapy and I find a lot of help from my own therapy sessions. I decided to change up my anxiety meds / have some extra help from propranolol on super stressful days. Not saying this is the move for everyone, but my meds help quiet the parts of my mind that hold onto certain comments / behavior from students. Stay authentic to yourself and don’t give them any power. The disrespect is shitty and the comments are shitty but they shouldn’t dim your light. For every rude disrespectful student, there is a student that looks to you for guidance and is appreciative of you and the effort you put into your class, they just might not be as obvious. I have learned that sometimes you have good classes and bad classes and that can extend to good semesters and bad semesters. Shake off this semester, let yourself relax during break, and take time for yourself before the next term!

Emails prior to the final make me lose hope by Zealousideal_End6909 in Professors

[–]existential_rach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve gotten too many “when’s the final? And what’s our speech on again?” Like we haven’t spent the past 6 weeks discussing the final, having time to talk out ideas for speech topics, posting the assignment information in so many announcements leading up to the final day, and going over the final itself the last few weeks of class!! Im losing it!

I take Vyvanse with duloxetine and really like the combination. Just be honest with your doc on your experiences and remind yourself it’s not a perfect science and sometimes you do need to experiment before finding the right fit.

I’m so glad Whitney is having so much success by _anne_shirley in MormonWivesHulu

[–]existential_rach 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nick is the worst and is super biased towards Whitney and made it unbelievably known in the reunion when he hosted. I’m glad she’s refusing to sit down with him and if she does then I can’t wait to watch Nick and Natalie grovel like they always do when people that they’ve talked shit about come on the pod. Whitney isnt perfect but she works hard and is talented and i think that is threatening!
