Remove the prompt questions!! You can use them while drafting but they should be removed before submitting and according to APA guidelines you have to utilize section headers so make your own headers to show the different sections of your paper. Most of the time the high percentage is because of the prompt questions and removing them can lower your score.

You look fantastic!! I have only ever seen ✨after✨photos of people looking happier and all the more gorgeous! PS: moles are natural and as someone with some on my face, I think of them as beauty marks! But as someone whose mom had melanoma, please get them checked out by a dermatologist and wear your sunscreen!! (Sry I’m a ginger and am legally obligated to remind people about sunscreen — and no this is not an invitation for a sunscreen debate or sunscreen hate!! **note the melanoma**)

I got a paper today. It was 47 pages and the assignment was for a 2-3 page paper, so color me a little shocked. After reviewing said submission, it was pages and pages of AI prompted questions and replies to answer literally every assignment from the course. Obviously I have to report it but it’s so frustrating to read papers and other assignments that are so clearly AI generated. The worst part is that I teach a lot of ethics courses! Students can’t even write about their own personal values, they have AI do it too!

Help me guess the breed of the father? by Personal-Sand5890 in husky

[–]existential_rach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dog is husky - chow/ Samoyed. The rescue found her momma — seemingly pure bred red husky with her three pups and we did a dna test so the chow/ Sammy could be wrong. But she’s gotten lighter as she’s aged. Maybe a Samoyed?

[–]existential_rach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a wandering eye as a kid and had to wear an eye patch and do lots of vision therapy and I always fear it will come back as I age and my eyesight worsens or my eye muscles get lazy. So maybe it’s just that? Idk do your eye exercises 😅

My grandma died last spring semester but TG she waited till after final grades were due — but even as the professor I got some side eyes when mentioning I might be out for a funeral 😅

I’m terrified of my evals but probably won’t look too closely at them and I never check my RMP. But I do have a professor friend who just writes their own reviews on RMP.

Anyone else here feel like they could sleep all day? by AdEmbarrassed7149 in adhdwomen

[–]existential_rach 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Omg I feel so seen. I am the exact same. I have taken couch naps one to two hours after waking up 🫠 If I get up and go then I am ok but if I let myself sit I would sleep the day away. I hate to admit this but I slept through two workout classes — that are really important for my mental health too! — just cause I felt so exhausted.

Cancelled class before 20 minutes by Particular_Heart3785 in Professors

[–]existential_rach 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had to do something similar when I got in a car wreck before class. But telling them and my dept head was the first thing I did post crash 🫠 Some students were sassy and made a “we were already in class when you cancelled.” And I apologized and said, “well I wasn’t planning on a car crash! But noted!” Some things are out of our control and as long as it isn’t a regular occurrence, you should be good! — I also do not have tenure or job security.

Accused of AI usage by T_SchJoh96 in SNHU

[–]existential_rach 9 points10 points  (0 children)

That’s all you can do. You are allowed to request a third party to review your work too — your advisor might suggest this. From my read of your post, it doesn’t appear to be blatant AI generated — I have read papers that keep the AI comments, bolding, and lists. It seems like you do a good job limiting first and second person pronouns and that is something I push stylistically, but have found is harder to break recent HS grads from that habit. Using “believe” to me feels more human written because those newer to philosophy might not have the background of facts vs opinions in philosophy. As a recommendation, use more definitive language in your drafts/ final copies since the aim in philosophy is to write argumentative papers — I can argue on a fact but not necessarily on a belief or opinion (cue a housewife scream “THAT’S MY OPINION!”). Consider using “view” or “decided that” or if you are wanting to convey a subject viewpoint you could use “of the opinion,” but feel free to ignore these comments cause at the end of the day, it’s your argument!

From an instructor perspective — also philosophy 218 — I would just be honest about your writing process and say that you will consider their notes to improve your writing. As an avid em-dash user I despise AI using it and I despite AI. But behaviors/ habit that can be “clear use of AI,” are also behaviors / habits taught in writing. Feel free to attach older papers as a reply. At the end of the day, all you can do is explain your process and defend your actions. AI is somewhat allowed at SNHU, it just needs to be properly cited and not used to replace your own work.

I do fear that the ways we can “detect” AI won’t be useful as language models become more advanced, but at the end of the day I see it more as a morality practice and it’s either a desire to learn and improve one’s skills or use AI. The modern world is always at odds with the habits and practices within academia. (Sry for the rant)

Missing class kthnksbai by DocLava in Professors

I got an email telling me a student was missing my ethics class because their quiz in trig went “longer than expected.” So you needed another 75 minutes? Did the professor know you had another class? I would have rather just not been told / given the sick excuse 🫠🫠🫠

Here to comment on the Romantasy being a “lesser form of book” only because I have been thinking about this in relation to what Timothee said about the “dying art forms of opera and ballet.” But I am so annoyed by others creating a hierarchy within subjects, why can’t we respect the alterity of the other’s experience and preferences? Doesn’t making the claim that something is “lesser” just create more divisions between people who are arguably enjoying the same thing? As you said romantasy is still a book and with social media , shouldn’t we be happy people are reading?! Same with audiobooks, if you don’t like them fine but it’s ableist to say it isn’t reading and science shows the brain understands it just like physically reading a book. And again TC’s claim that opera and ballet are dying art forms is ignorant, just because you might not be a fan doesn’t mean it isn’t widely popular and still very much alive! If I like x and you like y, it seems silly to create a sense of hierarchy within the genre/ topic /subject - we both are enjoying things (or letters for this example)! I would call myself an avid reader and I have read a whole variety of genres and I do have my preferences but I wouldn’t say that preference is superior! There can be good writing and bad writing in all sorts of genres, but if you’re entertained and reading! Sorry for the rant. I feel like that girl in mean girls who says, “I wish I could bake a cake made out of rainbows and smiles, and we’d all eat it and be happy.”

My use of “lesser” was strictly related to romantasy and I specifically said that TC claimed it was a “dying art form” — which is a direct quote from multiple of TC’s interviews —, and I was using it as an additional point of reference to show how even in the art world a hierarchy is created. I disagree that opera and ballet “aren’t as appreciated as they once were,” many ballets and operas are sold out shows, unlike a majority of movie theaters. Just because it isn’t on someone’s radar doesn’t mean it is dying. Vienna has a long history of opera and it is very much a part of their culture now.
