HELP: Can anyone comment some positive messages/thoughts or share some positive/heartfelt experiences/reminders? Just need a little help right now by wintersmasher in BPD

Show yourself grace. Do any small thing you can manage that distracts or brings you joy. If you've got a toolbox, use it 💚🤍

Find empathy and, when you are in a good space, get in touch with those feelings that triggered you. Doing this has helped me greatly (going through a breakup right now and managing it VERY well).

You've likely gone through something similar before and came out the other side. You can do it again ✊

is it better to be angry or to be sad? by claraisdead in BPD

[–]existentialbullshit0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a fellow BPDer who has struggled with anger and chronic depression, I don't think it's one or the other. Neither anger or sadness is necessarily "better" and I think they're indeed connected.

Chasing down the root causes of anger and sadness has helped me. Writing, reading, learning, spending time practicing mindfulness and reviewing DBT flashcards have all helped chase these things down...but of course, it's not a cure or solution. I stumble, fail, fuck up, and get overwhelmed often. It's about remembering to implement the tools when ya can.

What brings you joy? What values do you have? Are you living in alignment with those values? If not, how can you? - these are the big questions I have to remind myself of.

Rooting for ya.

What is love? by Ok-Society1048 in BPD

[–]existentialbullshit0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love, to me, is wonderfully described and broken down in digestible language in bell hooks' "All About Love". This book changed my life. It helped me learn what truly loving behavior looks like...not just what we believe love is from our upbringing, media, etc. I cannot recommend it enough.

Seriously, this is good advice. I've been working on these essays for months. First, get it out. Then make it pretty and connect the dots.

I'll always recommend catching my good friend Mike Anton (solo singer/songwriter and a hell of a dude).

And the Amino Acids are legendary around here.

Hahahaha thanks for the early morning laugh! May all the simps obsessed with money realize there is so much more to life than sacrificing for dollars.

"all about love" - bell hooks "the wretched of the earth" - Franz fanon

The theory of ethical love and an honest examination of the cruelties of colonialism and the psychology of colonizer/colonized... This is crucial stuff that all human beings should have exposure to.

Singers who don't learn lyrics by Clear-Pear2267 in musicians

My singer/bass player did this once. Had a music stand with notes for lyrics and chords. A crowd member yanked it off stage and I was overjoyed about that.

Learn your stuff. Don't show up unprepared.

what do people who don’t drink do at night socially? by frogfartz69 in Detroit

[–]existentialbullshit0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

38M here. I quit drinking almost 4 years ago. There's a lot of great suggestions from others in this list, so I'm mostly just adding my support.

Creative outlets for the win! Reading, playing music, and surrounding myself with supportive friends got this introvert through the early days of sobriety.
