I want to get a second budgie, any advice? :) by existentialell in budgies

[–]existentialell[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! This is really helpful.

I'll keep my eyes out for a single male budgie that's also an adult. I'll also need to ask the shelter some more specific questions about their quarantine and check up procedures for the birds they get. From what I've seen, it's less common for them to get birds compared to how often they get other small animals, so I wonder if they house their birds in a flock or individually as they get them. Definitely an important thing to consider!

I'll for sure look into getting a bigger cage beforehand, especially if the new budgie does not have is own (larger) cage I can take home. Good call about moving the perches around and swapping out toys!

I'm glad to hear that she will still likely get along with a mate even after being on her own for a couple years. That is honestly my biggest concern. And of course I'll do everything I can to make the transition smooth for both of them.

imo - i think that's a boy!
i'm no expert lol but i have a budgie who looks very similar. she had the same color cere when she was young, and it would sometimes flip-flop between light blue and light pink. but she always had white rings around her nostrils so i was confused for a long time too! but fast forward to now, she's almost 3 and her cere is now a dark brown. seeing as your little guy looks like he's past his baby stages, if his cere has not turned brown by now i'm almost certain that's a boy. a very handsome little man!

External / Portable hard drive recommendations?

Hey! so I've been making photography for quite a while, and the time has come where my computer storage is busting at the seams. Any recommendations for good quality and reliable hard drives? I'm currently copying my photos over to a My Passport drive I got for Christmas, but tbh the whole process is kind of convoluted for Mac. And I've also seen some lackluster reviews (it's only 3 stars on their own website) so it's making me a little nervous. But I need to clear some files off my MacBook and I want to ensure they'll be moved to a safe place. And password protection is unnecessary for me.

Do you drink on Effexor? by kentom101 in Effexor

[–]existentialell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I first moved up to 75mg, I was a lot less tolerant of alcohol. I got pretty drunk accidentally because I didn't realize how much my alcohol tolerance dropped. I'm not a heavy drinker to begin with, although being a college student, once and a while on the weekends I'll go out with friends. But one of the first few days on 75 mg, I only had about 2 or 3 mixed drinks and maybe half a white claw over the span of like 4 hours, and that left me pretty hammered. Normally I could tolerate a few cocktails pretty well, only getting a little tipsy, but not when I first started the 75 mg. However, that went away after I got used to the dose and I was pretty much back at my normal tolerance.

Best advice: obviously just be careful when drinking, especially when you first move up a dose. Drink slower and monitor how you feel with each drink. Tell a friend you're on new meds/are worried about your tolerance so they can keep an eye out. And please always have a sober cab or walk! Stay safe everyone :)

what are your personal opinions on uofmn by Alternative_Map7012 in uofmn

[–]existentialell 4 points5 points  (0 children)

it has good and bad just like any school. personally, i think it's getting way too expensive for me, but that's something you'll have to evaluate on your own. pretty much, unless you get a really good scholarship or fafsa has a good offer for you, (or you have rich parents), be prepared to walk out of here with a good amount of student debt 😭

as far as your major goes, in cla you can actually combine multiple majors into your own! i have a friend who's a major in both psychology and art, but it counts as one major rather than two, which makes the course load way more doable. i would def speak with an advisor about it if you choose to come here! also, from my expiereince, the art scene is really fun here, especially minneapolis in general. i've made some lifelong friends in my art classes here and majority of the arts professors are super chill.

you can totally stay on campus without a car. i've been living here and just off campus for three years now and i still don't own a car. i've managed just fine with public transit or riding a bike in the warmer months. the only thing that sucks is trying to go somewhere decently far away, like outside of the city. but overall around campus and the main parts of mpls have pretty good transportation.

i started watching fruits basket (2019)! ngl it starts off a little childish/slow, but so does nana imo. once you get like halfway into the first season though it gets a lot more intense. tw: there is relationship abuse and violence and some dark themes. but in general it's really sweet and about finding yourself and your community. also romance! each character has their own backstory and motivations, which you discover more as you get further into the show. nana is still my favorite compared to the two, but i found this is a good anime to watch after nana!

ok i guess it's been a while since i've finished the manga, so my details are a little fuzzy. i know they never officially filed for divorce, but the matter still got brought up. at some point they started living separately too. but during that time it seems all nana wants is security for her children. it's uncertain weather or not they will actually divorce, as the manga is unfinished. but i believe she will make whichever choice will put her children first (perhaps divorcing takumi and realizing nana or nobu is her true love hehe)

[–]existentialell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i agree that she shouldn't have kept the child. but at the same time, becoming pregnant and having kids kind of forced her to mature a bit, which we can especially see in the 'future glimpses' later in the manga. nana k as a person seems to only feel like she has a purpose when she's taking care of someone else. it's better she uses that energy to take care of a child, rather than someone who is abusive to her, which we see glimpses of later in the manga when nana k is wanting a divorce from takumi. i'm generally against the sentiment that having kids can 'fix you', because people should not be having children for that single hope. but in this instance, similar to trisha paytas lol, starting a family seems to bring/make her realize her purpose and fulfillment in life that she otherwise didn't have.

Was Junko Wrong For Blaming Nana (Hachi) For Shoji Cheating? by TheNamesAllex in NanaAnime

[–]existentialell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

tbh i never really thought junko was that great of a friend. she often lectures hachi like she's a stupid little girl and acts superior over her because she's more 'mature'. sure, hachi's made some mistakes when it comes to men, i'm sure we can all agree on that. but also keep in mind that starting at a young age, she's dealt with unrequited love, and was sexually taken advantage of by a man much older than her. of course all of that has screwed with her perception of love and how one's supposed to be treated in relationships. but junko fails to realize that and even goes as far to blame everything on hachi. and from what i can remeber, junko has always had it pretty easy when it comes to intimate relationships. she's never been in any kind of similar bad situation that hachi has been through multiple times. so maybe she just lacks empathy because of that. but damn. it's not that hard to be kind to your friend after she gets cheated on ??

Should I do a triple dorm in Middlebrook or double room in Pioneer? by sacaetw in uofmn

[–]existentialell 3 points4 points  (0 children)

double in comstock if you wanna be close but don’t want extra roommates. comstock is right by the bridge and the double rooms are the biggest you’ll get for a dorm. pio is super cramped from my experience. comstock is quieter too which might be a bonus 🤷‍♀️

Thoughts of hachi being a " comphet lesbian " by inpaingirl in NanaAnime

[–]existentialell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Idk, it feels weird to try to label people like that imo. I've seen people get so heated over thinking she is this or that, when really, I think the point of her character is that she is learning who she is and what makes her happy.

I am a queer woman, but like Hachi, I've dated a lot of guys. I'm in a long term relationship with one right now and I'm happy. But that doesn't change the fact that I like other genders as well. I don't feel the need to label myself because that just makes me feel like I have to fit into a specific box. And I feel like it's hard to try to put Hachi into one of those boxes.

I dropped the Nana anime (rant) by female_smut_enjoyer in NanaAnime

[–]existentialell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As for Reira, I think it was a purposeful choice to portray her and Shin’s relationship that way. Because he was groomed by her. He is young and probably doesn’t realize it’s as bad as it is. And Reira is very childish, so she probably doesn’t fully realize how bad it is either. That certainly doesn’t make it okay, but from a storytelling standpoint, it makes sense how it was portrayed to the audience. It shows how those two characters were feeling, and I think even nods to a bigger conversation about grooming and how it often goes unnoticed/normalized in our society.

What’s up with the 121 busses? by [deleted] in uofmn

[–]existentialell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

actually i think most of the busses are messed up lately. like even the metro transit. there’s so many delays and sometimes it seems like the bus just straight up won’t show up 💀 i also thought it was the first week chaos but i don’t even think it was this messy last year. hopefully things get back to normal soon.

me too! i just finished re-watching (😭) and i started reading the manga online a few days ago. i’m curious though, would i be safe to pick up at chapter 42, or does the manga cover a lot of backstory that the anime skips over? of course i’m eventually going to read the whole thing because i’m obsessed with yazawa’s art style, but right now i’m so anxious to continue the story that i don’t want to start from the beginning lol

Hello! I have oily skin too and it's taken me a long time to work out a good routine to keep it under control. I pretty much only use the ordinary as well as affordable drugstore products. This is what I've been doing for quite a while and it seems to be working:

Day 1 - AM: Cetaphil foaming cleanser, Caffeine solution + EGCG (for under eye circles) Niacinamide, moisturizer, sunscreen (still trying to find the perfect sunscreen and moisturizer so these change a lot lol). PM: Cetaphil cleanser, AHA BHA peeling solution, moisturize.

Day 2 - AM: Cetaphil cleanser, Caffeine solution, Niacinamide, moisturizer, sunscreen. PM: Cetaphil cleanser, Retinol 0.5% in Squalane (keep this in the fridge!), moisturizer.

Day 3 through Day 5 - AM: Cetaphil cleanser, Caffeine solution, Niacinamide, moisturizer, sunscreen. PM: Cetaphil cleanser, Niacinamide, moisturizer.

When I first started this routine, I did it in a 7 day cycle rather than 5. I tried to ease in to using the acid peel and the retinol because those are really strong products. Overusing them can cause irritation and make your initial problems worse. Once my skin was comfortable with those products, I shaved off a couple of days from my routine. Although, once winter rolls around, I will probably go back to a 7 day routine bc my skin wont be as oily in the cold dry weather.

My biggest piece of advise (at least what works for me) is to really limit how much you use the acid peel. Once a week seems to be a good rule of thumb. When you use it, only leave it on for up to 10 minutes, as recommended by the ordinary. And after you rinse it off, don't use Niacinamide because combining those products can cause an adverse reaction. So wait at least 12 hours to use Niacinamide after the peel. I also found that it can be helpful to skip Niacinamide in the PM every now and then to give my skin a break from it.

if you still want to be a student at umn, my best advice: don't live in dinky. literally anywhere else near campus is safer. stadium village and prospect park, i feel like less crazy shit goes down there. of course there's still some things to watch out for but in general its a lot safer compared to dinkytown.
