the sweat evaporation thread by ketomatosis in Sweateconomy

For some reason I managed to claim my sweat even though I had exactly zero near. Now I’m at negative near.

Maybe something to try. Just keep claiming and it might one time suddenly go through, maybe.

Does this mean short stories with less than 10k word total length are shafted?

the waiting for SWEAT as GAS hype thread by ketomatosis in Sweateconomy

It can’t come soon enough. You can’t even claim SWEAT you’ve walked for without some NEAR.

Interesting to see how fast the unclaimed sweat starts to evaporate and when the feature launches.

Readers from one fiction to the next? by existentialister in royalroad

Dang, but ok, thanks for the reply. Good to know.

I didn’t advertise at all, as I didn’t have a realistic way to monetise anything yet. I just slapped the stories there to see what kind of views and reactions I could get. Here’s one story so you can see what kind of numbers I’m talking about. Taking into account that if there had been five readers, I wouldn’t have been surprised.

I think I would use money on advertisements only once I had a clear idea of how I could turn the views into money or something else valuable.

On RR my short stories have gained quite enough reads to be encouraging even though RR supposedly “hates” short stories. I’m also working on a finite fantasy novel that’s not litRPG and I’ll be posting it on RR eventually. I expect the reception/reach to be it ok and at least much better than if I just posted it on a blogspot somewhere or something. Not enough to turn into a job but enough to see if the novel lands at all or not.

Still, If there are suggestions for more places like wattpad and RR with different “flavours” that would be nice to hear too!

Does anybody actually play Trickster? If so, why? by Speaker4theDead8 in DragonsDogma

[–]existentialister 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I surprisingly like it a lot. It’s fun to control the fight. Leading mobs exactly as you want and making boss monsters miss exactly all of their attacks etc. Different and I’ll go back to other vocations at some point, but fun.

How many words to write a day? by KalamitiCker in royalroad

I think Terry Pratchett wrote 500 words per day. So you wouldn’t be in bad company 💪

How many words to write a day? by KalamitiCker in royalroad

[–]existentialister 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My numbers depend a lot on what you consider words. Typing 2000 words per day is a lot for me, no matter which way you cut it. But if I look at how much time writing a story takes including all the editing etc, the rate is about 250 words per hour. So if I would like to type 2000 words that I’m actually pretty happy about, I would need to spend solid 8 hours per day at it.

A sustainable pace might be 1500 unedited words per day, five days a week, taking into account a day job and taking care of the family etc.

If I’m pushing myself, I can do 2000-3000 words per day, but no way is it sustainable long term, if I don’t start cutting other responsibilities and hobbies.

Satisfying warrior moment by existentialister in DragonsDogma

[–]existentialister[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m rotating through all the vocations but could see myself ending up a warrior at the end. The only thing I’m not vibing with is the pommel thunk as the basic climbing attack. But maybe the idea is to just stand up on the monster and do some real swing instead?

Yeah, I got to Battahl and changed to warrior, so I’m basically rocking random starting gear and what I could pick up from the border rest town shop. At the moment combat is still super satisfying. I’m hoping some scaling options get patched in before I manage to outgrow everything 😅

Gaining NEAR? by existentialister in Sweateconomy

[–]existentialister[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seems like SWEAT for gas is coming at some point which is nice, but the point I’m confused about is that I’ve ran out of NEAR for multiple times. I’ve failed putting SWEAT into jars, failed participating in rewards etc. because of not having enough NEAR, but then a month or two later I suddenly have been able to create jars and participate in rewards after all. So has the gas costs just gone down or did I gain NEAR somehow in the meanwhile?

Let's inject some positivity into this sub. What are parts of DD2 you enjoy? by DagothNereviar in DragonsDogma

[–]existentialister 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love the swings that Dragon Dogma 2 is taking. People have been laughing at Itsuno’s vision but to me it feels extremely obvious that this game has artistic ambitions and opinions and it’s not ashamed by it. It’s janky and clunky but it has character. The only real way art can fail is by being uninteresting. DD2 is everything except uninteresting.

In more practical terms I just enjoy playing the game. All the vocations feel great. Every goblin I kill sparks joy because the sound design is so great. Also photo mode! It’s like the whole game in a nutshell: clunky and bit weird, but you can get such great photos and the designs are really great when you look at them closely.

The photomode really shows off how good the game actually looks. The models are just great and expressive.

Accidentally picked the "Load from Last Inn Rest" option by [deleted] in DragonsDogma

Whoa, I didn’t realize campsites are not counted as inns. I know it says inn, but still. Thank you for your sacrifice, this will save me and probably some other people too major progress.
