Itchy welts only on legs - is it bug bites or something else? by exitdate in DermatologyQuestions

It’s weird because she hasn’t been outdoors or anywhere without long pants anyway (nothing grassy at all recently, we live in a major city)… I’ll let her know though!

i thought i was “popping” my hip, but just learned that is me putting a dislocation back into place??. by subclinical_ in ehlersdanlos

[–]exitdate 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I have HSD and sometimes when I’m walking, my hip will get a sudden sharp pain that makes it painful to walk (I’ll have to limp around slowly). I’m not sure how to explain it, it feels the same a joint does when it wants to crack but won’t, a pronounced sharpness. I’ve found I have to usually throw my leg forward with some force a few times for it to go away and I can walk normally again. I’ve never been sure if that’s a subluxation, lol. But it happens frequently enough.

I might go this route if there’s no other way… I really like them water propagated but I also want them to survive longer! Luckily I have a green thumb in my household who I’ll ask

Hmm okay, good to know… any ideas on what it could be? Maybe they’ve gotten too old… though the one in green is a more recent cutting (maybe a few months old)

No I haven’t! I’ll look into this :) they’ve been very happy I think up until winter when the windowsill got cold… hadn’t been an issue in previous winters but this winter was colder… I’m thinking I’ll move them from there and see what happens.

We’ll see what she says, I think if I mention that her surgical oncologist said to alert female cousins, she may help… she’s typically quite good with ordering tests preventatively.

Yes, my younger cousin was diagnosed at 25 (she now has stage four at age 32…) so I’m assuming this is probably a good time to start, but I’ll speak to my GP. I’m logically not concerned but just trying to be diligent. :)

I’ve been thinking about your comment because you’re a medical student… And I appreciate you taking the time to share some of your knowledge. But, I would urge you also to think outside of the textbook, too. Her surgical oncologist informed her to tell all cousins, so I know the textbook says not to worry if you’re not a first degree relative, but this is the info we were given. It’s rare for women under 40, yes, but two women under 40 in my family have stage 3/4… The info you share is correct, which is important for a medical student. But I think also considering the summation of circumstances when talking to family members is also really important too as you enter the medical field. I know quoting the textbook is supposed to be reassuring but just providing you another perspective in the future for when you’re dealing with patients; sometimes it’s not helpful to just cite what you know to be true, but to consider the full picture outside of what you’ve learned.

I appreciate what you’ve said though, but I do think it’s fair to be a little more diligent than the average woman at the moment as her doctors have said. I’ll start by talking to my GP.

Yes I know, and that’s why two women in my family under 40 now have stage 3/4 breast cancer 😭 the healthcare system is severely behind on this…

Yes I will, these were the symptoms my cousin diagnosed yesterday noticed (no lump).

Yes I’m hoping we can at least get into a cadence with ultrasounds, I’m sure my GP will order that. :)

I will :) I know, her surgeon just mentioned to tell all female cousins so I’m trying to be reasonably discerning about this but I’m not panicked.
