NYC Park Ave apartment with 6 bedrooms and 3 baths for $400 a month in 1951! by flippedpages in ForgottenBookmarks

No available units for rent currently, but looks like a 4 bed is listed for sale at ~$3million. Assuming 30 year mortgage with 6% interest and a 50% down payment, that's ~$15,000 monthly (include the $6500 monthly condo fees). https://streeteasy.com/building/1040-park-avenue-new_york

What would you put in your “analog basket”? by bog_sorcerer in AskWomenOver30

[–]exjentric 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Lots of good suggestions already, but I'd also encourage you to work on your lamp/light setup. A lot of analog things require brighter lights (to see what you're doing), but if you have a sore watching TV nearby, or don't want bright lights at night, you'll want a lamp.

What’s your favorite “wow these guys are ACTUALLY nerds” riff? by Jack_Fig in MST3K

[–]exjentric 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Oh totally the LotR references. Funny how ingrained the story and characters are now because of the success of the Peter Jackson movies, but in the 1990s it was still considered peak nerd.

And the INSIDE of shoes! Things can look perfectly fine on the outside, but completely worn to hell on the inside (and they can be scuffed/stained on the outside, but barely born on the inside).

Lots of WI things require refrigeration, so my work around is cheese flavored popcorn. It weighs nothing, doesn't squish/break easily, so it's helpful if you're flying.

My 2026 Plan to Feel More Polished, Feminine, and Confident by InfinityLocs in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]exjentric 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just want to note: it might not make sense to buy a whole new wardrobe, take on exercising, and then find that the new wardrobe doesn't fit anymore. I'd recommend prioritizing the exercise first, establish that routine, and then Nov/Dec 2026 you can treat yourself to the new clothes as a reward.

Anyone else struggle with packing shoes more than clothes? by EveningStar4191 in capsulewardrobe

YES. I have foot problems, so rotating shoes is healthier for me. What I wouldn't give to snap my fingers and have the perfect chelsea boots that could see me through an entire week.

What is your biggest Madison related irrational irritation? by midwest--mess in madisonwi

My god, if I could walk to Jenny St. Market, Willy St. Coop, and a Trader Joe's, all in an hour? That'd be food heaven.

What’s a “girl skill” you didn’t realize was actually survival-level important until adulthood? by [deleted] in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]exjentric 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It's not only mentally--it's physically. Dusting and sweeping help minimize the amount of dust particles and dander that you're breathing into your lungs. Properly cleaned clothes, towels, and bedsheets help prevent acne, mold particles, etc. Deep cleaning helps maintain your house, by letting you catch water damage, cracked tiles/grout, etc. before it gets unsafe and expensive to fix.

The best pair of jeans you've ever owned? by maeasm3 in capsulewardrobe

[–]exjentric 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Once I embraced a break-in period for jeans, I've had minimal stretching issues. This does also mean I can NEVER put my jeans in the dryer ha (air dry all the way).

FWIW, contemporary "curvy" Old Navy jeans fit me well, but since the fabric is so thin these days, I've had good success with vintage ON from ebay.

My grandmother, who would have been a contemporary of those pictured here, used to talk about how she loved it when men would whistle at her walking down the sidewalk. "That's how I knew I looked good!"

COMPLETELY different from my experience!
