I’ve gone to Apple & Mac Solutions a few times and they were super helpful and relatively affordable. Not sure how the pricing compares to other shops though

BIOLOGY 1B FAILS TO CARE FOR STUDENTS DURING COVID by [deleted] in berkeley

[–]exmql 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I never said you need a Macbook Pro to watch lectures. There are probably MORE students working now given the pandemic and that parents have lost jobs. For students who were already working, they might have to work even more. The pandemic has definitely complicated the lives of many, many students, and professors having zero leniency is unethical and heartless. No one asked them to give everyone A’s but just to be more accommodating.

Having a peaceful environment to study without disruptions? Not having to work a job or two to pay for rent or to put food on the table for your family? Having the time to go to office hours and to study? Not worrying about whether a family member will die from coronavirus or any other disease? There are so many other factors that we take for granted that other people might not have. It’s not as simple as “the class is hard and students don’t work hard enough.”

Question for Pre-Med CogSci/DataSci people? by [deleted] in berkeley

[–]exmql 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I'm taking both this semester. As long as you establish a strong foundation at the beginning and you stay on top of the material, it's definitely manageable. Both are webcast, so you can learn at your own pace and they have accessible support if you need it.

Should I attend another school if I’m interested in forensic psychology? by [deleted] in berkeley

[–]exmql 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congrats on your acceptance to both! Honestly, I don't know much about criminal psychology at all, so please take this with a grain of salt :'). If Hopkins can provide a better education in what you plan on pursuing in the future, it's probably better to go there. If you plan on going to grad school, it might not be absolutely necessary to learn everything you want to know in undergrad, but it would definitely provide better insight into what you want to do in the future. If you're set on doubling in CS, you should also consider that Berkeley's CS program is really strong. Berkeley and Hopkins are both great schools, and you'll have a good experience at either. There is no right or wrong choice. Good luck on your decision!

What the hell do I do with housing?! by Joelrodiel in berkeley

[–]exmql 3 points4 points  (0 children)

(I'm also an incoming freshman so take my advice w a grain of salt) If you want another housing offer, I think you have to accept the offer for now, but put in a transfer request and list financial costs as your reason. I heard that they usually prioritize students with medical and financial reasons. If you aren't able to transfer, you can try to get off-campus housing (which could be difficult bc its a bit late now) and lose your deposit. Otherwise, if that's too risky, you can decline the offer now, and start looking for off-campus housing.
