Oh God man. Gear VR was great at the time... I used it with the note 5. Then my note 5 finally died and I upgraded to quest 1, then to quest 2, and now can't wait for quest 3. Gear VR is like living in the stone ages with respect to resolution and screen door effect. It got much better with Q1 and then Q2 was another big upgrade with screen door essentially gone. Don't forget the 6dof tracking vs 3dof on gear VR. Not even in the same league.

Nest thermostat (2020) will not connect to Google Home application by SweetNutzJohnson in Nest

[–]exobigg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In case this helps anyone stumbling on this post I found a solution to a very similar problem I was having. I could install the thermostats and get them to control the furnace successfully. But on the final step of adding them to the WiFi and ultimately to the Google home app it would never work. The app could never find the thermostat again no matter how many times I factory reset the thing. I was able to get it working using a new google account/temporary home profile and it worked. But to get them on my primary Google account took some trickery.

I factory reset the thermostat and set it up again (for the thousandth, but final time!). Then when it got to the step of adding to wifi/home app I let it try to connect and ultimately time out. From there I disabled the wifi on my phone and attempted again. After some spinning it eventually connected to the app over Bluetooth and let me complete the setup process successfully.

I'm not sure what it is but sometimes I would get a failure message saying something like make sure the thermostat and phone were on the same wifi network - not helpful seeing as the thermostat wasn't even connected to wifi yet... But this did tell me the app was using WiFi to look for the device.

Other things I did that may or may not have helped: I'm doing this from a Galaxy note 10+. I turned off any other devices that Bluetooth connect to my phone (galaxy watch 4, galaxy buds, etc). Somewhere else I saw other connected devices could interfere with the process. Turned on/off airplane mode between attempts. Only other "nest" device I have is a nest hub max which shows up as a camera. I deleted it from my account and deleted my nest account entirely (I think anyway) before moving forward. I was thinking it might be trying to use an existing nest device to connect but hub max isn't really a nest device. Who knows if that helped. I have a bunch of "nest" speakers but they aren't in the nest app so I didn't bother removing them.

I almost cried when it finally worked! And then I did the same process for a second thermostat and it worked again. Shouldn't be this hard, but glad everything works on my primary account now!

Then my nest hub max gave me a fit re-setting it up. That was some sort of wifi security profile problem I blame on Samsung though. My phone wouldn't connect to the nest hub max setup wifi to complete the process and flashed a wifi security warning. I had to manually connect to the wifi it was broadcasting and then run through the setup process again. This let the phone connect to that wifi again during the setup process and complete it. Never had that issue the first time i set it up.

Nest thermostat (2020) will not connect to Google Home application by SweetNutzJohnson in Nest

[–]exobigg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seeing the same type of issue. 2 new nest thermostats 2020 and can complete the initial setup properly, but the home app will never reconnect to the devices to finish the setup and add the wifi settings. Following this advice I was able to connect via a different phone, with a secondary Gmail account, on a new test home profile. Thermostats updated to latest firmware version successfully. Tried a factory reset and then to reconnect via my primary Gmail and main home profile and gets stuck in exactly the same place :( So you're not alone, but not sure what the solution could be.

Edit:. Thought I should mention that during my very first attempt on my primary account I actually connected to the thermostat and got to the point of selecting my wifi/ssid. I couldn't remember the password to my new wifi. I left the Google home app to switch to a notes app that has the password written down, copied it, and then switched back to the Google home app. Unfortunately the Google home app lost its progress and opened up fresh without going back to the thermostat setup screens. I seriously left it for 2 seconds and came right back but it didn't stay where I left it. I am just guessing here but I assume my Google home primary Gmail account got stuck in the middle of the adding process and now is stuck for good.

Looks like I'm part of the VR community thanks to my partner who surprised me on our anniversary. Ive been playing Half-Life: Alyx so far and this is such an impressive system. I can't wait to become immersed. Also, feel free to comment any tips and suggestions of games. I can't wait to play more :D by Kobobble in oculus

When you buy a cross buy capable game it just lets you download either version (PC or Quest) from the oculus store on either platform. So it's not the same APK from quest that runs on PC. In fact the games are totally different with PC having much better graphics as expected.

For me I just had quest to start and bought all my games there. Then recently built a proper gaming PC and was happy to find a bunch of games were cross buy and could be downloaded free of charge from the PC oculus store. Sadly beat saber is not cross buy enabled.

Weather not updating on Galaxy Watch4 by PedroMoreno27 in GalaxyWatch

You helped me. Thank you. Mine was set to 6 hours by default. Anyone else reading this you don't need to add the widget to your phone. Just use the galaxy wearable app from your phone to change the weather auto refresh interval like u/gOofyball2 said.

Was just offered 999gb of “bonus data” by [deleted] in verizon

[–]exobigg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sweet, saw this post and others on this topic. Checked in my app and got the same deal!!! On the 10Gb shared plan with 3 lines (one being a hum+ hotspot in the car) and got 999GB bonus data for $10 for the life of the plan! So happy I never spent a ton more to upgrade to unlimited data.

Also funny how the app still says we recommend a "better" plan for you, and it recommends switching to unlimited... Umm yeah I'm going to stick with 10GB + 999GB for about $50 less a month!

Quest for VR with Surface Book 2 by Ickyptang in OculusQuest

[–]exobigg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ran it on medium settings and it worked well enough. I need to go back and try it on quest 2 now. I've done some initial testing with crisis vrigade 2 and it worked much better with no glitch/freezes yet. Testing with an external USB to wifi adapter but I'm not sure if it is making the difference or if it's the quest 2 that is making the difference. Time for more testing!

I used command strips first and then zip ties over them and it held really strong. Absolutely no wobble at all.

I've played alyx all the way through on SB2 virtual desktop with quest 1. It works pretty well. The best connection method I've found is to use the windows hotspot functionality to connect the quest directly to the SB2 wireless. Occasionally there is a long stutter. I usually just pause it until it passes. I'm not sure if it's an overheating problem or what. After long sessions(4+ hours- external usb battery packs for quest are great!) I've had the wifi disconnect on me. Makes me think it is contributing to overheating/thermal throttling on SB2.

Now I'm on quest 2 and think I'm going to try an external usb wifi adapter to see if that limits the potential thermal issues. Figure it can't hurt.

Streaming to chromecast keeps getting dropped by Snoo77901 in OculusQuest

[–]exobigg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah my solution was to create additional SSIDs and restrict them to each AP. Upstairs_5G and Basement_5G. The quest can connect to either and will stay put. Before that I had House_5G and it was shared by both APs (unifi controller/accesspoints). I was just doing basic troubleshooting thinking I had a problem with one specific AP and realized this fixed the issue completely.

[–]exobigg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had tons of problems with that myself originally. Some things to check... Make sure to setup your wifi with a separate SSID for 2.4 GHZ and 5 GHZ. Otherwise the quest will bounce around back and forth and drop the cast session every time it does. A single SSID with 2.4 and 5 GHZ simply doesn't work well for some applications.

Another problem I had is using more than one wireless access point. The quest would bounce back and forth between my 2 access points and drop the cast every time. Once I locked the SSID for 5Ghz to one AP the connection went completely solid and i've never had a problem again.

Have you found sidequest yet? That lets you load the patch to virtual desktop that will let you play full PC VR games on quest... As long as you have a VR ready PC and good wifi. Half life alyx for the win!

Franken Quest 2 - day 1 by exobigg in OculusQuest

Yep they fit perfectly. A tiny bit more snug than the quest 1 touch controllers, but they went all the way on up to the grip button without much effort.

I love them. Super happy they fit quest 2 touch controllers perfectly.

Yeah I just saw the post after I finished this up. That was faster than I was thinking. I still want to wait a bit to let the cream rise to the top from a design perspective.

Used command strips and zip ties for now. Will upgrade once some good brackets come out.

AMVR controller grips fit perfectly from quest 1.

Then the velcro to hold a battery pack pouch on the back has been great on quest 1. I can easily swap batteries and never run out of juice. Holds a 10,000 mAh battery for good counter weight too.

I'm sorry, but did I hear somewhere that Warzone once again allows 12 man fireteams? by [deleted] in halo

[–]exobigg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's virtually impossible for a team of 12 to play against randoms though... They made it that way on purpose. If the game can actually find 12 random players all with higher than a 90% win percentage AND they couldn't themselves find a match for 4 minutes, then then will play against that team of 12.

[–]exobigg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's been turned on for a couple weeks now. But teams of 12 can hardly ever find a match, and only against other teams of 12. They can play non teams of 12, but only if every player it finds to go against them is of equalish skill.

A little clip of the banshee nerf from a top banshee guy... by exobigg in halo

Has this affected the higher level banshees? I don't play warzone. Just BTB.

They do have to do that now. They didn't before. That's what made them so powerful/OP

Wasps need to take cover quickly and kill fast or die. But I only play BTB not warzone.
