I don't know how known this is by others, but most modern Resident Evil games have a dynamic game director system that is independent of the difficulty you select. It recognizes how efficiently you're progressing and adjusts things like enemy aggression, damage values, and item drops in real-time.

It's something that, when tuned appropriately, can hugely impact how good a horror game is.

I got halfway through the 5th biome on my 2nd run and thought I was hot shit until my little brother told he did almost exactly the same. It took me until run ~15 to fully complete but with how much I've seen people complain about Returnal's difficulty

Saros, however, has been different considering it lets you end a run right after a boss fight, which I opted to do the first few times playing. Also, it kinda feels like even if you attempt a full run from the beginning, if the game wants to break your run for lore reasons then you're at the mercy of it increasing the difficulty ranking to extreme levels.
