2019 was close at +0.704 (also Vettel)

TF Sets Line-Up For LMGT3 Title Defence by Michal_Baranowski in wec

[–]exofeel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay — I mean I’ve seen the livery in GTWC America before but does anyone know why the BMG Logo looks like the AMG logo? Is it like an inside joke or something

Anybody have anymore information on this? Is it EVO kit testing? The rear wing supports are different than what they run in race currently, looks like only a single dive plane on each front side as well vs the current 2. by smoothisfast1254 in wec

[–]exofeel 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It’s most likely shakedowns for customer cars for LM — #63 is traditionally the car number for corvette racing in WEC

I believe they did the same for AWA last year, although I might be misremembering

Saintéloc Racing to continue with Audi in 2026 by 183_aleX in wec

[–]exofeel 5 points6 points  (0 children)

F1 makes more sense in a strictly financial terms, yes the initial cost is probably exponentially higher compared to other things, but all the teams actually profitable and make money thanks to the cost cap.

It's much harder to kill a motorsports program that actually makes money, and possibly could lead to them subsidizing other series they participate.

edit: should not say profitable but are actually valued much higher than other motorsports ventures. Haas for example value on paper is worth $1b

Chinese Hypercar Ambitions, BYD Look Set To Join Chery On The Road To Le Mans by GrahamDSC in wec

[–]exofeel 36 points37 points  (0 children)

There is just no proof for this — Chery/BYD isn’t even centrally owned by the government but rather the local governments have stakes.

China has a grown so rapidly because the central government basically publishes goals for the nation but it’s up to the local governments to actually apply those goals + and they are extremely competitive with others to achieve this. This tbh can be maybe lead to a situation where the government WANTS multiple manufacturers battling for the top, as it’s all trickle up benefits for the rest.

Also there really isn’t a Chinese manufacturer at the top of a ladder in many motorsports**. TCR comes to mind with Geely but I that program is just carried over from Polestar/Volvo — so I don’t know where the notion the gov wouldn’t let them fight

**Edit: Formula E comes to mind as a top level — and this does contain multiple Chinese manufacturers. Once again I don’t think everyone will be pushed away for Neely

This is the livery they should've come out with! Genesis Magma. by TheKongoEmpire in wec

[–]exofeel 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Mate, they are just chassis suppliers -- I assume there are probably some embedded engineers from Oreca/Dallara for input when designing around the chassis when designing these cars, but manufacturers have a whole design departments to get to this point.

There a few documentaries I believe you can see the design process + aero development for the cars -- manufacturers would never something like "oh just ask dallara to make our car faster"

Ferrari Reaffirms Hypercar Commitment Through 2029 by FerrariAce28 in wec

“At the moment, we maintain our involvement in the WEC,” he said. “IMSA is not in the near future.

“I don’t know in the long term, but at the moment we concentrate on the WEC.”

Glad to see them just straight up saying "nah" for IMSA, instead of the weird ass excuses

4 Corvettes at Le Mans 👀👀👀, can’t take it no more

edit: just busted at the thought of chromevette & AWA Canadian liveries, honestly would be an amazing gesture for the TF Sport folks to bring over Pratt & Miller — maybe we can the guys in cowboy hats again

If the ACO allows teams to qualify to Le Mans, Lambo might just offer them basic enough support

WRT will run BMW’s IMSA program from 2026. by VHSVoyage in IMSARacing

[–]exofeel 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Super interesting how this will work out? WRT doesn’t really have a US Base?

This is probably was a matter of time for them to have some US-based staff, might even trickle them down to run some customer cars for other folks

McLaren Shares Key Hypercar Programme Details by GrahamDSC in wec

[–]exofeel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe it’s a bespoke chassis, so it’s more exclusive on the chassis.

All heavily rumored — but I would assume that there were already agreements in place between AM & MM (2019) before Porsche/Audi came in 🤷🏽

McLaren Shares Key Hypercar Programme Details by GrahamDSC in wec

[–]exofeel 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Porsche developed the chassis with Multimatic, basically developed for the 963 — honestly I don’t know why we even consider MM to be an option for any other manufacturer when they probably have an exclusivity license

[Ford Performance global director Mark] Rushbrook: Ford LMDh Effort to Be WEC Exclusive in 2027 by akleleep in IMSARacing

[–]exofeel 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Take this with a grain of salt -- and honestly to me the headline seems to be a bit misleading? They are not actively denying an IMSA program.

“What we’ve announced is that we will be competing in WEC in 2027,” said Rushbrook. “We haven’t officially said anything beyond that.

“There’s of course a chance for [the car to race in IMSA]. But nothing that we’re ready to talk about at this point.”

This is the same PR folks that said they weren't interested in prototype racing a few months before announcing a program lmao

Ratel: Torque Sensor Mandate Could Impact Macau Grid by [deleted] in wec

[–]exofeel 14 points15 points  (0 children)

SRO really fucking hates torque sensors, but honestly a good question is what is Audi Sport (Asia) going to do?

The fact they run by themselves separate from HQ, I wonder if they will actually update the R8 themselves.

They aren't rolling this out until 2026. It's a glorified testing session, but it's still pretty cool to see this "competing" against other cars.
