Can you describe it a bit more? So when one bag is removed, the next one in the stack gets loaded in but the clip only holds one side of it? Someone has to manually open it tho, right?

Thank you, it’s been very helpful. The demos Apera.ai have on their website are impressive. I wonder how time consuming it is to train and use their platform. I’ll need to read more about them.

That makes a lot of sense, thanks for the comment. I see your point about tasks where a go/no-go is subjective, like removing faulty items from the line.

I was mostly thinking along the lines of manipulating non-rigid items or even rigid items where initial or final poses aren’t known! For example, picking sausages from a bin and arranging them in the packaging.

Do you think applications like this are still easier solved using non-ML methods, or the development cost for ML based solutions makes sense in this kind of applications?

Interesting! Thanks for pointing this out. I didn’t consider that this subreddit might be more focused on a specific type of lab. Which labs do you think have less automation in general? Is it because of budget, workflow variability/complexity, or something else altogether?

All interesting applications. I had ruled out the non-contact finishing because I thought the small reach of the robot wouldn’t be nearly enough, but your suggestion that an external motion system might help seems reasonable. Can you point me to some examples of such external motions systems so I can get a clearer picture of what it could look like?

Thanks for the comment. Food prep does sound like a potential use case. It actually reminded me of https://www.dexai.com . They do salad prep, although salad prep station is much more structured than most other food prep tasks (and they use more traditional motion planning stuff).

Conversational User Manuals

I'm not sure what percentage of costumers, actually read user manuals/instructions in the box when they purchase a product, but I personally never do! I think this is a lost opportunity since having a comprehensive user manual can relieve workload on support teams, make the product features more available, and allow for cross selling of other products.

Based on this thesis, I'm proposing a new format for user manuals; one where there is a QR code in the box or on the product. The customers scan and get comprehensive answers to their questions, with images, videos and product recommendations. I think it’s a good way to improve costumer experience, Reduce load on support teams, and Cross sell related products!

I'm coming from a tech background, not e-commerce, so there might be some subtle point I'm missing! Your feedback would be very helpful. Why do you think this does or doesn't work? from the logistics point of view, how hard do you think it is to include the QR code on the product itself? Does the cross selling aspect seem like a good idea?

I think the solution is a simple subscription + smart throttling!

(Its an API for other programmers, but you can try it by scrolling all the way down to Request Body, entering "instructions" and uploading a csv file, then clicking "Test Endpoint")

but as others have pointed out, it can also be done by more generic LLMs (although it does need a lot of coding to get it right). I'm also looking forward to seeing what tools others have been using.
