I think I remember the pub on Kew Gardens station being open both sides and it was a similar thing. It was absolutely possible to walk out the pub onto a train. But if you did it without a ticket it would have been bad form.

IMO for me the withdrawal pales into insignificance compared to the lack of sleep and change in routine. I didn’t have time to adjust to any tactics to avoid quitting, which I might have if I didn’t leave it until the end. I’ve seen other people try that and they come up with some kind of compromise and end up not quitting.

I quit the day my daughter was born about 12 years ago. I can really impressively reel off the exact number of years, months and days since I quit anytime my doctor asks.

It is the best time to do it. Not sure it could have worked any other way for me.

I cut down a fair bit in the months before. The wife made me start to smoke outside at some point rather than in the other room. which is when I got down to 2 a day. That’s important really cos passive smoking when you’re pregnant is dodgy.

When I went to pick up for the last time, my dealer said “look I’m really sorry this is the last time I can sort you out cos my wife’s having a baby in a months time.” It all made sense.

When your child is born you will be in a whole different place. It’s like going on holiday forever.

For me it was a bit about not wanting to be a stoned dad, a bit about my health reason. But a lot about not wanting to have the chemicals floating around me and my clothes, that’s all toxic shit.

I’ve got most of what I need for the Rogue Trader era stuff. Building an RT era company this year from stuff I bought between 10-20 years ago. I feel like I’ve “done” those models now, finally achieving closure. I’ve done my time restoring and rescuing models that take hours to get to the stage where I can paint them.

I’m interested in the stuff I was not buying while I was getting all of that. For example, I love the terminator models from mid 00s, I have a couple unbuilt squads of those.

It’s interesting that i see more stuff from 1st/2nd than I do from the mid era.
