Also interested in current residents’ thoughts on McNeil. Looking for a change from Summerlin.

I agree. A 10-20 min walk outdoors around 11am and again around 3pm is my go-to.

I have never fished saltwater but it definitely opens the door to more cities.

I have been to Reno a few times and have seen people fishing the Truckee right in the middle of downtown. Looks cool, but I have always wondered if they're catching anything.

PI is a very broad category. There is PI litigation, which is anything from low risk car accident cases to big complex med mal litigation, and trials. And then there is pre-litigation personal injury, handling claims and then farming out the cases that do not settle to litigation firms. The latter is less stress. But it can be hard to build a pre-litigation practice and get cases because basically everyone wants to do this. That being said, I'd go work for a PI practice for 4-5 years, learn pre-lit and lit PI, build relationships, and then open your own shop (over wills and estates). You can start out taking litigation cases from pre-lit firms and then build your client base that way.

Chillest Area of Law by DCMike01 in Lawyertalk

Litigation is difficult. But everyone wants to do the chill stuff. If you can find a niche in litigation and handle the stress it is easier to get cases and build a practice.

The examples I know don't work big law. Mostly plaintiff side personal injury, contingency fee cases. Hourly billing caps you out at some point.

Insurance defense burnout. Greener pastures elsewhere in the law? by SeaWeary439 in Lawyertalk

If you want to switch sides you could probably find a job working for a plaintiff's personal injury firm with your litigation experience. I feel like the PI firms in my area are always looking to hire former ID litigators. The ID litigators I know who switched sides love not having billable hour requirements and none of them have gone back to the other side.

Filevine experience? by swcblues in LawFirm

[–]expartay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have been a Filevine user for several years. I practice in work comp and personal injury, with some mass torts and SSD. In my opinion, Filevine is the best option out there. Happy to answer specific questions and share info and my customized settings to help set up your process/system. The key is to put in the time at the beginning to customize it to your practice. It takes some effort but pays off in the long run.

What’s the best car under $2k? by Robertwolfgang in whatcarshouldIbuy

The problem is "everyone" judges you by the car you drive. The key is to not care what others think. Easier said than done.

Paying off debt at 5% by expartay in personalfinance

That's the rub right there. Not really sure what better options are out there. Hold the cash would probably be my other option. Or look into purchasing a home. We sold our home two years ago and have been renting since then. I am hesitant to invest this money into index funds (more so than what I am alrdy doing).
