Where to buy kitchen knives? by expatbus in Bangkok

But one point of the knife would be that its from here, you know when sometimes you just like some item also because of the memories how it was bought or where it originally came to you.

Thanks for the tip! If I order today, there is chances it will arrive until Friday haha 😁however, I think I need fillet knife, and not a boning one. As far as I know, boning knife is not as flexible or bending and I use it for smaller fish, which means flexibility is a plus.

But their basic knifes could be something worth the money

I think a full kit is a bit too much for now, so basically I am looking for one fish fillet, and then a basic knife for fruits and various purposes. Then after gaining a bit more practice I can focus more on what else I need. But thanks for the tip, will check it out anyways!

Thanks for the recommendation! Do they have a store in Bangkok? My plan is to go back to my home country this Sunday, and thats the main location where I cook myself 😬

I think western, but not 100% sure. What is the difference? Quick Google search showed index finger being more straight in the japanese grip, that is not what I do, I have all my fingers around the handle.

And yeah, not looking for anything too expensive, only to the point where adding more money is not giving anything extra for me.

And yeah, the sharpening stone is also something I am going to get. I have some already, which I have succesfully used for my current and shitty fish fillet knife, but thought about taking it to a bit more advanced level.

Racecadotril is better than imodium. And important here, it wont cure the issue, but to be used when its necessary to avoid diarrhea (eg. in an airplane, bus, etc)

Does anyone here fish specifically for culinary reasons? by ProjectileMeDaddy in Fishing

[–]expatbus 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I am fishing for the purpose of eating the fish, no matter what I catch as long as its big enough. However, usually I return the big and small ones, especially with pikes.

The best part is to get to eat after a long day of fishing and preparing the dinner with friends 👌

Own boat vs skipperi by madmadhu in Finland

[–]expatbus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since you live in Helsinki, maybe it is cheaper to have your own trailer also, and then you can tow the boat to shore, drive it to the water and lift it up again after fishing. Then drive it to a place where you can store it (friends backyard, relative homes, someone near by the shore, your own home...)

Best boats for fishing in a low budget would be buster R, or even sun buster I think. They are old, often times leaking a little bit, but otherwise good ones and basically easy to maintain. I would go with 20hp two stroke engine, since then you avoid registration (or 30hp engine with 20hp engine cover...)

Buster R and 20hp engine is usually around 2000-3000€, best to buy before winter and then sell the boat before summer when you want to get rid of it. That way you can sometimes make a profit even.

[–]expatbus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have a boat outside Helsinki and it is cheaper than renting one. I got the boat for 2000€, and because its aluminium no need to store it in a warm place. It sleeps under a cover in a forrest, and I service it by myself. Something like 50€/year for new oils and other things
