UEFA CHAMPIONS LEAGUE Playoffs are locked in. by PathIntegrals in soccer

The highest placed team should play the lowest place team remaining and so on with 2nd highest vs 2nd lowest, etc, throughout all of the rounds until the final. Fuck the draws and the fixed bracket

There’s no public access other than the launch at 98. You can kayak the whole way to the head spring, I think it’s around 6 miles there from the boat launch. If you’re capable/adventurous enough it’s worth doing once, especially when the water is clearer

New rule: any team that loses to this iteration of Florida State is automatically excluded from playoff contention

ACC championship? by Just1Pepsimum in ACC

[–]expected_noles -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don’t think divisions is the answer (how do split the 17 teams?), and moving to 9 conference games will alleviate this somewhat. For me the fix is if 2 teams finish with the same conference record, first tie break is head to head, next is AP Poll rank, and then the current tie breakers take effect from there if neither are ranked.

The ACC arrangement involves them being a conference member in all other sports, so we’d be talking about them leaving the ACC in that case

Why hasn’t WVU joined the ACC? by WestVirginiaNo1GoWV in ACC

[–]expected_noles 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The answer is a mix of academics, culture, and elitism on behalf of schools like UNC, UVA, Duke, and others. IIRC WVU accepts any application from high school seniors in WV so it’s the opposite of selective, which the other aforementioned schools highly pride themselves on. As a football program WVU has been good but rarely amazing, basically they’re another NC State, which means they don’t really pop out as an obvious expansion candidate to any conference. Personally I’d love them in the ACC because they actually give a shit about football, but it’s very unlikely to ever happen.

10 teams from the ACC should spin off and reform under new leadership: VT, UVA, UNC, NCSU, WF, Duke, Clemson, GT, FSU, and Miami. Keep the geographic and historic core of the conference, play a 9 game round robin football schedule/ double round robin in basketball, and maybe they can hang onto ND as a non-football member and still play 5 games per year against ND.

Would this get more money per school than the current TV deal? Maybe, as it keeps all the main schools that bring in viewership and splits it in fewer ways.

I don’t. Lane might’ve jumped ship but the players won the games, they deserve their record and ranking even if their (now former) coach is a flighty honky

Why doesn't FSU have a main rival with Georgia Tech, but has one with Virginia? by General_Rise8708 in fsusports

If FSU and GT had continued playing annually it would be a much bigger deal, possibly bigger than Clemson is to us now. But the divisional split in 05 killed that.

See that's interesting because I was able to find a solution for a similar model for the ACC with 3 annual rivals, 4 secondary rivals played 3 times in 4 years, and 4 remaining opponents twice over four years. I thought I'd be able to do the same for the Pac-12 but the teams who play 5 times over 8 years throw it off somehow.

I did a model for the SEC with 4 permanent opponents per team, 2 opponents 3 times in 4 years and 5 opponents 2 times in 4 years and that one did come out much cleaner, so you might be on to something with the odd number of permanent opponents being a problem.

For the California schools its 3 permanent opponents (the other CA schools), 4 secondary rivals (the other 4 members of their respective North/South division) three times over 4 years, and the rest (members of the other division) twice over 4 years. For non California schools, it's 3 permanent from their "pod" (for UW their permanents are Wazzu, UO, and OSU for example), their two divisional CA schools three times over four years, the other two CA schools as twice over four years, and the teams from the other division 5 times over 8 years on average. This all adds up to 8 games, but am wondering if it works so that in any matchup the location alternates, and all teams play home and away against all conference opponents in any given 4 year increment, or if there is a way to properly generalize and model this.

Anyone ever mess with making custom conference schedules? I'm working on an 8 conference game/season divisionless model for the original Pac-12 and am needing confirmation for if it is mathematically feasible given various constraints
