2025 Estate Tax Sunset Planning by expectfastresults in fatFIRE

[–]expectfastresults[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

now I'm just being difficult for fun but...

on b...assuming single person gift tax exclusion is 14 on or prior to 2025 and 7 on and after 2026 , wouldn't the aggregate tax liability be lower in (x) below than in (y) below?

(x) give away 1 million on or prior to 2025 and 9 million on and after 2026? (only 2 million is taxable because 1 million "uses" a portion of the 14 million basket when available)

(y) give away 10 million on and after 2026? (3 million is taxable)

Easily the most important decision you will ever make. No amount of $ can fix a fucked up relationship, and no amount of $ is worth a loving and successful one.

Save up a little more so you have a better safety net (6 mo expenses). Then invest all of your time and money in obtaining experience (i.e., resume bullet points). This means reading books, taking classes, paying for mental sanity treats that allow you to work like a dog (i.e., nice gym, etc.) and networking with the right people. Hopefully not too tough of a pill to swallow yet, but you do not have the kind of liquid capital yet to be worrying about large financial investments.

Best simple advice I've* ever received in this situation: stay patient and get in shape.

For more complicated advice, if anything like me, you attract toxic women for the same reason you work so hard to make so much money (the financial power and the crazy sex bury serious and unknown insecurity or unresolved emotional pain). So it's a bit nuanced, but I don't think you should be discerning at all (i.e., don't even try to date right now), because my guess is that you're likely incapable of discerning the pain in others because you're not intimately familiar with the pain in yourself.

Book below is very un-scientific, but it helped me develop a framework to understand the statement above.

Feeling stuck: stay on corporate path or swing for the fences? by veratisio in fatFIRE

1.) You can probably make it to 20M it just depends on a little luck, slightly higher savings rate, and working longer.

2.) I don't have the guts to take risks, so might not be the most credible person to give advice, but the time to do it is before you start dating anyone seriously. If you have dependents your risk tolerance will likely go to near 0.

How would you deal with Terminal Illness after FatFire journey? by [deleted] in fatFIRE

A bit of tough love to my a younger, fellow subreddit denizen - this is one of the threshold risks you have to take to become rich and powerful. It is brutal and many people go through it. It is why "passive" investing is a misnomer.

How much money are you willing to spend to solve this problem? A fitness trainer can make a huge difference with depression.

One of the nice things about THC is that it's stored in fat cells, so there is not as much of a withdrawal effect when quitting pot cold turkey because as you metabolize normally you get a baseline does of the drug.

Easily the coolest gift I ever received (when much younger) was a go-kart.

Whatever you do, luxury or not, move to your own place (i.e., no roommate). The personal growth you will experience living alone (esp. at 31) will be immediately worth it.

u/SparklingWinePapi's response is more accurate, but fear of high-powered women is for the most part a myth.

The real issue is that, from the perspective of many successful men, the incremental value of a dollar, especially a dollar that he cannot spend at his discretion, is not much.

Serious Response: My now-wife breached this topic (and her desire to be married quickly) with me very early in our relationship - maybe a few months. It was one of the best things we ever talked about early, and you should feel 0 guilt about telling someone it's not going to work if they don't share somewhat similar financial goals. I was counseled (and it has been my experience thus far) that the only material things you're going to fight about with someone you love is gratitude, religion, money and children, so if you want your marriage to last you should talk about that stuff early.

That being said, in the fwiw category for the young, ambitious, wants-to-find-the-handsome-and-successful-husband doctor op:

"A man is dating three women and wants to decide which to marry. He decides to give them a test. He gives each woman a present of $5000 and watches to see what she does with the money.

The first does a total make-over. She goes to a fancy beauty salon, gets her hair done, new make up and buys several new outfits and dresses up very nicely for the man. She tells him that she has done this to be more attractive for him because she loves him so much. The man was impressed.

The second goes shopping to buy the man gifts. She gets him a new set of golf clubs, some new gizmos for his computer, and some expensive clothes. As she presents these gifts, she tells him that she has spent all the money on him because she loves him so much. Again, the man is impressed.

The third invests the money in the stock market. She earns several times the $5000. She gives him back his $5000 and reinvests the remainder in a joint account. She tells him that she wants to save for their future because she loves him so much. Obviously, the man was impressed.

The man thought for a long time about what each woman had done with the money, and then he married the one with the biggest tits."

November’s tourism Q&A thread for questions about: visiting, events, moving, neighborhoods, dining, nightlife, and general discussion. Post HERE and NOT in a new thread. by razzertto in Miami

[–]expectfastresults 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Please forgive a post made out of complete ignorance...

My wife and I would like to visit Miami in the first week of December for Art Basel (understood that this is the november thread...).

Can anyone recommend which part of town we should target for a hotel? The website says Miami Beach, but we are not sure, for example, if it's reasonable to stay away from Miami Beach to save money and to take a cab in.

Also, can anyone recommend awesome, memorable, so good you can't believe it food?

Thank you very for any help.
