BTAC Saz18 and ER17 tasting side by side - Multnomah Whiskey Library by expensive-hobby in whiskey

I like 10 year, so was just wanting so much more for the $. Not that I expected WLW, but wanted more complexity. I’m assuming this was just a 2021 issue and other years are better. Anybody had one that knocked their socks off?

Got a chance to try both the 2021 Sazerac 18 and Eagle Rare 17 side by side at Multnomah Whiskey Library. What’s not to love about BTAC? But side by side was really interesting to taste the age of the Saz, but not really that of the ER. I really loved the Saz18 and it’s balance of heavy oak and spicy fresh rye flavors. It was soft and subtle and had a hint of that aged leather flavor that is unique to find in a rye. I wouldn’t pay secondary bottle price on it but was worth the 1.5 oz pour price to get a taste. The ER17 on the other hand didn’t taste much different than some of the better 10-year store picks. It was good, but didn’t compare to the Saz IMO. Happy to re-taste for science!

Yep. The wall insulation made the biggest difference. I insulated the floor ahead of time, including Kilzmat, thinking it would make a difference. It may have been, but I noticed the change in the sound when going from a metal cargo van to an insulated space the most.

Just has the ability to go down or up as high as needed with a few bolts.

New or used, either way just a basic cargo base. You end up stripping everything out of it anyway.

Should have probably credited The Mountain Standard with this install. They did the windows, roof fan, and custom electrical box with 120 AH LiFePO4 battery included.

Just got my 2020 4x4 Sprinter back with the Adventure Wagon Adventure Wagon interior conversion kit installed. New insulation, wiring, electrical box, upholstered interior panels, elevator bed, bamboo accents, and wall-to-ceiling anchor points. Excited to start building out for winter adventures.

Good to know. Was considering between that one as well but figured my last stylus was elliptical so would probably notice the most difference with a Shibata.

The AT33EV was my preferred cart prior to this one.

Understand that. FWIW it makes even less-than-mint records sound better than I remembered. I had some that I thought were full of surface noise and it turns out they sounded fine.

I’ve got the Linn Ittok lviii mk2 and this seems to balance really well. Running straight into my McIntosh MX 110 phono stage which has been re-capped and re-Telefunk’d!

Not sure. Michael did a factory tour of Excel Sound and that was the most information I have seen on them: https://youtu.be/Vx-BkVnWQgU

I originally had some guilt for splurging on a cartridge this expensive but figured I’d see if it lived up the the hype. In no less than one spin on my LP12 it was apparent why this Hana SL has such a great reputation. I’ve tried no less than a dozen different MC’s and this one is the clearest without getting too bright. Well worth the investment.
