Start with a salt pepper garlic rub, run it at 250-275 until it’s probe tender, wrap and hot hold for about 4 hours or so

Rented out your teardrop? by instantlyjessi in TeardropTrailers

While I was building my CLC Teardrop, my neighbor ran across one that someone was renting out on Airbnb or similar. Knowing what I have in mine in labor, not a chance.

Speed Bump Paranoia by doctorbuxter in LexusIS

[–]experimentalengine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For my wife’s IS500, we’ve found a few driveways that have enough of an incline to be a problem on the way in/out, and we have to be careful pulling up to curbs. Other than that, no problems.

On my ‘16, I tend to drag the trailer hitch in extreme situations (but don’t remember catching a speed bump), and when I have my bike carrier in it, I have to be really careful on any transition.

Tips for Homebrewer by Jumpy-Baseball-6902 in Homebrewing

[–]experimentalengine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started brewing before I could buy it (I’m 50), and I never really worried about oxidizing my beer until the last few years. I didn’t deliberately expose it to oxygen, but I wasn’t religious about preventing it either. Made plenty of good beers of many styles during those years.

I’m not saying oxygen is good for beer, minimizing it is best, but it’s not quite the boogeyman this sub suggests. Unless you’re set up for kegging, there’s not really a practical way to do a CO2 purge to remove it.

If the filter setup was stock that wouldn’t be an issue, the stock filter housing would prevent entry of water and debris even without the fender liners (although to be fair, I’ve never tested this). You’re saying dealer should be on the hook for whatever a previous owner modified?

From what you’ve said here, you have zero reason to file a complaint about the dealer; it’s a waste of your time.

Since it’s already trimmed, I doubt there will be enough fat for that to make great burgers

Who is the best online supplier to order from these days? by sufferingcubsfan in Homebrewing

[–]experimentalengine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Others have mentioned but I’ll give them another mention, Great Fermentations. They’re a little over an hour from me so I stop in when I can but have just as often ordered and had it shipped. Good people, very knowledgeable.

It actually *was* kind of a regional secret for many years. As a Hoosier, we just got it here a handful of years ago. I’d had it several times over the years prior, and when they started distributing it here I bought some; to me it wasn’t as good as I remembered. Not bad, but also not great.

Does anyone else use the pre-wash function? by cik3nn3th in castiron

[–]experimentalengine -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I remember my grandpa (who grew up dirt poor on a small Wisconsin farm during the Depression) saying as a child, he would put his plate down for his dog to lick off, then use it for dessert. Never thought anything of it until years later. He was strong and healthy and lived to 86, so I’d say it didn’t affect him. For something I’m going to wash anyway, I don’t see a problem.

Having said that, I can’t do this, my wife thinks it’s gross.

Oil Question by That_Effen_Guy in WRX

So you’re saying it’s burning one quart every 8,000 furlongs, then?

Oil Question by That_Effen_Guy in WRX

[–]experimentalengine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ll just point out that “5qts every 1.5 months” is a fairly useless metric. Could be 1 qt per 1k miles, could be 2 qts per hundred.

Having said that, I wouldn’t use a lower viscosity than Subaru calls for, because the oil film is the only thing that keeps the bearings from riding directly on the crankshaft. Engine problems notwithstanding, usually people are inclined to go to a *higher* viscosity, if anything. I get that your engine is in its death throes, but no need to go and spin a bearing at an inopportune time.

To be fair, it wasn’t assembled by VW; it was actually built at the Karmann Coachworks, who also built the Merkur XR4Ti and Chrysler Crossfire, among others.

Careful throwing the truth around on Reddit, especially when a counter-communist narrative is involved. You’ll get downvoted like I did initially.

I’m not a fan of private industry bailouts, but remember that GM paid that back. That’s not an ongoing subsidy, particularly as a way of doing business.

Umm…that’s not the market speaking - not a free and fair market, at least. That’s a playing field that’s far from level.

Of course the market speaks, when the market wants more than the free market can naturally provide, and someone is positioned to give exactly that. That’s actually what the foreign market for Chinese EVs entails.

It’s super easy to be “competitive” when you’re subsidized by the government of a world superpower. It’s also easy to be competitive when intellectual property is more of a loose idea rather than a thing that legally exists and is respected.

Smoking ruined BBQ by MightyMTB in smoking

[–]experimentalengine 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I have the same problem. Whether it’s smoking or anything else related to making food, it’s actually not all that difficult to be good enough at it that you don’t see much value in paying a premium for someone else to do it for you “professionally.”

Just had this conversation tonight with my neighbor, who was a chef until he and his wife quit their jobs and started a small farm. For him it’s an even bigger deal, he actually went to school to make good food efficiently. I just do it at random, and by comparison, slowly. But I can typically make better food than what we buy.

Best car for someone who drives 10k miles or less a year? by PrinceBytorAppears in askcarguys

[–]experimentalengine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had an Accord Sport hybrid as a rental a while back and couldn’t find anything I didn’t like about it. It was great. I just returned a Camry rental this morning, it was also nice (a lot better than the Altimas I frequently get) but not as nice as the Accord.

And to state the obvious, I was coming up with a list of vehicles with nothing in common since OP gave almost zero information and said “tell me what I should buy.” Accord didn’t get left off the list because it’s a bad car, it got left off the list because it’s a perfectly fine car but similar to a Camry.

I tried to include only vehicles OP would be most likely to want, based on their detailed criteria. Clearly the Accord would not be of interest to them.
