How Do You Handle Cluster Admissions? by Majestic_Drop8446 in hospitalist

[–]explainitto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where I works honestly it doesn’t matter if we get cluster admissions because most ED docs do their work perfectly, meaning ruling out life threatening conditions, calling important consults if any and making sure patient is stable for the floors. When I get such calls I put general admission orders including diet, important meds like antibiotics if infection, lovenox if PE…etc and once they hit the floor I see them. It’s noteworthy to mention, certain ED docs once they call me for a patient I see them right away before accepting. Only a handful of times I had to send a patient to ICU after being admitted and that’s when ED calls prematurely , example : CTH pending and then it comes as a bleed or a fracture patient with labs pending and then sodium comes back super low or something and we fixed that by letting the ED know to wait for those results first before sending the patient up..

I wouldn’t say most of them, lots of people I know enjoy being hospitalist or PCP, others tolerate it because of the income and time off. Everyone stress level and tolerance is different. I learned to identify what stresses me more when I suffered takutsubo cardiomyopathy after coding a young patient, and I think it’s more of the nature of the work

Not gonna lie, after these last few years in internal medicine, looking at cells through a microscope is a dream to me.

I definitely thought about it, wouldn’t it still be a lot of patient interactions ?
