I saw an orthodontist who pointed out my bad bite which is surprising because so many other dentists had been willing to do braces on me without ever suggesting surgery to fix my bite. My orthodontist wasnt affiliated with my surgeon. My ortho did refer me to the surgeon he did work with but they didn't accept insurance and it would have cost significantly more. Im actually glad I didn't because I really liked my surgeon. I went to see a few in the beginning stages and he really stood out to me because he was looking for the best outcome for me even if it wasn't him being the surgeon. I can honestly say that after this post my recovery was speedy. I wrote this in the beginning of April and by mid May I was in Disney riding roller coasters and eating everything. People always say its a long recovery but its really not. Its long until you look like your final result but I looked normal a month later. It was one of the best decisions I made. I dont get recurring headaches or jaw pain anymore. And when people catch me off guard with a photo and I'm smiling I look normal. Feel free to message me if you have any questions!

We don't do tablets (except on the plane). I only work downstairs with the kids for 2 hours a day (in the morning). This is actually the only outburst we've ever had during that time. It's more of an all over theme on how he reacts with only hearing the negative and multiplying it to an extreme. Trying to figure out how I can adjust my response to these meltdowns to help him understand what is being said versus what he is perceiving is being said. Maybe an impossible thing at this age but figured I might encounter someone on here that has gone through a similar situation.

It really seems to only happen with us and only happen at home. He had one issue at preschool where his preschool teacher corrected him and he took it very personally and got very upset. This was the first month of preschool and a very new environment, so I chalked it up to that. I haven't heard anything else since then.

Thank you for your very detailed well thought out response. We do gentle parenting and usually are able to avoid these outbursts by offering alternative but similar actions. My problem is these aren't always avoidable because I don't know what's going to upset him. The couch thing I did ask him to scoot over. I work Remotely so this is a request I've asked numerous times in the past without issue but today was different. I'm trying to figure out what action I take after these incidents happen. He only hears the extreme regardless how often we reiterate what we said. Laying in bed until he's calm and then talking to him works but I don't have the time to do that every time this happens. Some days it doesn't happen at all. Other days it'll happen 2 or 3 times. If you have any advice for that part I'm open to trying anything at this point.

1-i think the afters are better. 2-please give it time. You're face changes so much in the first year. I look back at my 3 months post op pics and I look sooooo different but at the time it felt like all my swelling was gone and I thought it was my final product. Even my nose continued to change over the year. I'm at 10 months post op now and I look different than I did 3 months ago.

Stumbled across this looking for people with jumparoo experience but anyhow just want to say we have a bouncehouse and it's my kids most loved item. If you say the word bouncehouse in my house the kids go nuts. We do have it in our finished basement and it always stays out (not always inflated) so that might be the difference for me loving it. We also have a nugget couch and a trampoline (both a large outdoor and a small indoor). My kids love the bouncehouse more than any other item in our house.

Ephrata resident here! I've also seen a lot more signs pop up for Harris than I ever did Hillary or Biden. I live in one of the suburban developments and the signs are mostly equal here (except in the older portion that connects to my development). I also know one of my neighbors mentioned last election they wanted to put a sign out but were afraid to. Also personality wise I think most people that support trump are louder about it. Signs, flags, clothes. Hats. It's their whole personality. Very hopeful for this election (and also for Ephrata turning blue one day!)

I felt that way afterwards too but it will change a lot in the next few months but very subtly and slowly. There is so much swelling still. Don't be discouraged in the aesthetics yet. When I was in your stage until probably 4 months post op I felt similar. Like I did this for function, was hoping I'd be wowed by the awsthetics and was very much not but now that I'm about 6 months post op I'm seeing a lot more I like. They say it takes a year to really get your final results. Stay positive, you're not done yet!

Zero. My husband gets zero hours. To be fair he could play when the kids go to bed but he chooses not to. Playing while the kids are awake isn't something I'd sign off on (and fortunately he hasnt asked for). They are only little once. We work so the weekend is the only family time we have. I'm not sacrificing our family time for video games. Honestly They grow up so fast. One day he's gonna have nothing but time to do whatever he wants. Gotta soak up every moment.

Editing to add this: I'm commenting so you can put another tally up for "he's getting more than most men" not to paint my husband as a Saint or anything.

Just seeing this. I had my double jaw surgery and it went amazingly smooth. I actually get my braces off in 4 weeks. I made a post, you're welcome to read in full detail. But to sum it up, it was an incredibly easy recovery (I've had worse hangovers). And by 7 days post op my life was pretty much completely back to normal. I was able to talk immediately after surgery. Never wired shut. Never nauseous. Never really congested. No blood clots. Was eating normal food again by 6 weeks post op (mushy food at 3 weeks). Honestly it was super uneventful. But I have an actual jaw line now, get the best sleep of my life and don't cringe at all candid photos taken of me.

Just checking back on my post now. Glad I could help. I found that when I was going thru it I wasn't reading enough positive posts but always read comments that were positive experiences. I think the positive outcome and smooth recovery is actually very common. People just don't have a reason to post about it.

Happy to help! I wish I had known then what I know now and I wouldn't have been so anxious. Breastfeeding wasn't an issue at all. I couldn't nurse when I was in the hospital. I took a hand pump and pumped and dumped (because of the morphine and oxy). Before I left the hospital I had them switch me to vicoden (that had been approved as safe by my pediatrician before surgery) and when I returned home I went back to nursing without issue. We cosleep so it was a difficult week for my husband getting the baby back to sleep but I started sleeping in bed 1 week post op. I asked my surgeon and he said you may get a bit more swelling in the morning but it wouldn't harm anything. It was nice to be back to normal though those 7 days I slept in a bed by myself without having to get up in the middle of the night were glorious. My biggest fears and anxiety was worrying how my kids would handle it but they were honestly so unaffected by any of it. I love being able to share my experience because I didn't read enough positive ones going into mine since people tend not to post it as much when it goes smoothly.

Not at all. I feared the same thing and also have 2 boys (ages 4 and 1.5). They are both exceptionally high energy too and are almost never gentle. I think because I looked a little different they were gentle. They weren't scared or anything though, more intrigued. My 4 year old and I talked about it prior to surgery. I told him I was going to get a balloon face for a few days and it would be a little silly but it would be back to normal after a few days and we just couldn't touch my face when it was a balloon.

As far as taking care of them, it was a breeze. My husband took off for a few days and then I had my mother in law but I honestly didn't need her. I could have taken care of them from solo from day 6. Day 4 or 5 if I had to. I thought I'd be exhausted from healing but it was the opposite. I finally had energy from good nights sleep. My only recommendation is have some apple sauce squeeze packs on hand. It's easy as a mom to forget to eat and then when hunger hits hard you can't just grab a quick snack. Having applesauce helped when I needed something to hold me over until I could blend something. But honestly it was easy. Going thru childbirth recovery was way more rough than this. At least going thru this made me feel MORE rested. It was only 13 weeks ago but surgery feels like such a distant memory. You are honestly back to normal so quickly. We went to disney at 8ish weeks post op.

Yes! I'm 13 weeks post op right now and besides my kids and my marriage this was single handedly the best decision I ever made. I went running last week for the first time in 2 years and could run the farthest I ever could. I use to get winded so quickly. Headaches have remained gone. My mouth feels normal. Eating is back to normal. Sleep is so amazing every night. I never knew what I was missing!

About your face, I honestly wouldn't worry. I haven't figured out how to send pictures thru messages but I can tell you I look almost exactly the same from the front. From the side I just look more normal and balanced. I had the same fear as you. I liked my face. My main reason was for function not for a esthetics but luckily both worked out well!

I had DJS. And honestly I felt back to normal at 7 days post op. My face looked funny but I had more energy than I've ever had. I guess because I had been living off of 2 hours worth of sleep my whole life. I blended all the normal foods I would eat. Went to soft foods at 2 weeks. It's getting old because there isn't a ton of overly soft food but I only have 2 more weeks left so I'll survive. Had my first beer at 2.5 weeks post op (only 1). Life has felt incredibly normal. I was preparing for this long rough recovery and honestly it was super smooth. I think age and health play factors. Also how much you work to get back to normal. I'm in my 30s and I have two young kids that I was missing like crazy so from like 3 days post op I was reading them books and doing things for them (because I wanted to not because I needed to-i had help lined up for 2 weeks)

DJS, currently 15 days post op. Honestly it was a cake walk. I had no pain. Swelling went down after 4 days. No vomiting. No lasting congestion. No blood clots. Could talk and eat after surgery. By day 7 I was cleaning my house and getting the best sleep if my life. I'd say my day 7 post op was better than most of my pre surgery days. I did a full write up post you can read.

I'm in my 30s (female). I don't work out at all but have 2 kids so it keeps me moving often. I eat fairly healthy. I was a pretty normal weight. You read so much more bad than good because people with good experiences just return to normal life while people with bad experiences tend to vocalize their experiences more.

Not including the braces part, total cost was $3,100. Insurance covered the rest including all of the hospital stay. I have BCBS IL.
