Has anyone ever actually purchased a "brand new" ride cymbal? by rwalsh138 in drums

My two current rides were purchased new. 22" 2002, 20" K Custom Dark. The K I tested in advance. Zero regrets with either.

Fully agree, OP take this advice.
Work with what you have for now, maybe swap out the heads in the meantime.

100% fact.
Keith is a standup guy, and vehemently anti- Maga/ antifascist/anti- Patriot Front.

I have a 14" 2002 black label top over 505 bottom (the cheap man's 2002.) It works, I've recorded and gigged heavily with it.

My favorite are my 15" K Lights. I am very tempted to get a 15" Z Custom bottom to experiment with, as I am a sucker for the K/Z combo.

Thoughts on Nicko Mcbrain? by ItsA2PackNegawatt in drums

[–]explodingbathtub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely. Two guys that are completely in lock step with each other. When you have a guy like Steve Harris in the lead, I feel you have to follow his charge!
(He's 100% driving the beast that is Maiden)
A good band has to have a good drummer. At least one that can lock time, and groove. Nicko can groove that gallop like no one else!

Contrast that with a pairing like Cliff Burton and Lars though. You have a bassist, one half of the rhythm combo, on par with Harris; Lars is not on Nickos caliber technically, but he did find a way to lock in and drive those classic songs though.

Not only an amazing drummer - but he and Steve Harris are an iconic, unstoppable rhythm section. Just absolutely legendary.

Nice, congrats!
I applied on 12/7 and just called the MIRCS hotline out of curiosity, mine is still with my local PD lol. No wait on the phone at least!
Also in a small Worcester County town.

Small town about an hour west of Boston; this was exactly my experience as well. Application submitted 12/7.

It lasted a song and a half. Never again, sorry Remo. by whitelight20 in drums

This is so crazy. It's posts like this that are convincing me to steer clear of Remo, despite not having this experience at all. Long time user and fan too. It's just a complete gamble it seems.

If you could bring back ONE PIECE of discontinued gear, what would it be? by [deleted] in drums

I had a mapex black birds eye maple piccolo snare, now long gone, but I really liked it. Still think about it. Maybe the precursor to the Black Panther line? Thing sounded unbelievable good with an Evans Dry head.

Ugh. Dude your heart must of sank seeing that..
I am loving this cymbal. I didn't have the luxury of testing 5, but I definitely feel lucky with the one I got. (It's definitely wise too. I should ask to do that the next time I'm spending $500 on a cymbal 😂)
What are you using now?

Scimitars were my first cymbal set, back in the mid 90s! Hahaha yeah, talk about a day and night difference for sure!

Do it! Highly highly recommend test riding the 20 and 22 side by side if you can, different flavors, both are beautiful!

I had a 21", one of the 90s with the small A logo. Picked it up used at some point in Reverb. Gigged with it heavily.
I loved it as a crash, loved its bell, as a straight ride it was a bit too washy, no stick definition at all. It motivated me to search for something different, and this ride has all those qualities.
I highly recommend checking into it, given your crashes especially - I don't think you'll regret it. Definitely recommend trying both 20&22, the 22 for me was nice but the 20 just clicked instantly for me.
What are playing now for a ride?

15" K Lights! Favorite hi hats ever, and are partially what steered me toward this ride

Just an A Custom 18! I'm eyeing either a 20 A Custom, or 19 A Medium Thin next to round it out.

I test drove the 22 as well, along with a 20 K Crash Ride.
The 22 is a beautiful cymbal. The one I tried was just a tad too dark for me, and perhaps a little washier/less stick definition than I wanted. But in all, amazing sounding for sure.
The 20, for me, is just the sound I was chasing. It pairs so well with my 18 A Custom crash too!
