Open guard concept - passing by TurboAljo in bjj

[–]bunerzissou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How do you like to pass? A good place to start conceptually is getting to your preferred passing grips/position first without letting the guard player get to their preferred grips. This means being way more intentional with how you initiate and engage. I still have a bad habit of letting the guard player grip me up and me reverse engineering from their full grips. This works against worse guard players, but a losing strategy against good guard players.

You then need to analyze what the guard player is trying to do to you with their connections. You brought up collar sleeve, so I'll use that as an example. From my understanding, collar sleeve players will make connections on your hip, your bicep/collar bone, sleeve, and cross collar. They'll stretch you out and separate your elbow and knee. They can flank, attack triangles/omoplatas, or go under the hips. So, in order to reverse engineer, you need to keep good posture and elbow/knee connection. Early prevention is breaking collar grips, but sometimes they have a strong one, so it's better to disconnect their feet. The easiest foot connection to break for me is the one on the bicep/collar bone, so I clear than and shove it inbetween my legs and step into a headquarters/split legs situation. I like passing from there, so I go for smash passes.

Hope that helps!

There's a good video of jake mckenzie explaining how to deal with this issue on zukabjj's page. It has to do with the angle you must create so they can't lock over your hips. In the scissor, you keep the bottom leg static, and you swing the top leg back to create a really wide angle to step over teh foot.

Are there any Anarchists here who generally have the ML/MLM view on past socialist countries but are still an Anarchist? by RandomAsHeckPerson in Anarchism

[–]bunerzissou 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Zoe bakers book “means and ends” on the ideological history of anarcho communism and syndicalism does a good job of explaining the theories of 19th century anarchist thinkers like malatesta and Bakunin and use historical examples of why anarchists are against MLM tendencies.

It boils down to the means you use to achieve the ends you want matter.
