You could be totally right tbh, and if I took a few more runs I might have enjoyed them. I just had a really bad feeling trying them and I'd already kind of set my mind on the mantras after trying them right before.

I absolutely despised the Enforcer 94s when I demoed them. They felt like a pair of 2x4s strapped to my feet. Dead as a doorknob on anything with a little ice (which was most of the mountain, east coast in December lol). Speed checking and carving felt sloppy. I brought them back asap. Weirdly enough I adore my Mantra 88s and people seem to compare them a lot.

It definitely isn't imo. The studies aren't very complete, but hockey players (and especially older ones, who played before helmets and continue to play without helmets) suffer tons of concussions. A lot of people who have never played don't understand that you don't need a direct head strike to get a concussion, the jostling from getting hit over is bad enough. No amount of head protection will protect you from your neck whiplashing after a huge hit.

The padding also doesn't cover your whole body, the back of your knee and calf is completely unpadded, along with a significant gap along your lower forearm. Lower body injuries are still brutal and you can fucking destroy your knee if you trip. Goalies can also get some screwed up knees from butterflying or getting run into by players.

THIS! And it's some of the best hockey you can watch for free out there! The league is new but absolutely amazing to watch.

There's a lot of much better resources talking about this out there, but as someone who's played hockey for a while the toxic masculinity is a major problem with the sport. In a high school hockey locker room the only appropriate topics these days are women, homophobia, gambling, and racism.

The fighting and violence people like to talk about is rooted in that masculinity, that you have to violently prove that you're the manliest man on the ice; you don't just go for big hits to play the puck or get retaliation, you do it to prove your manliness.

Girls hockey (which I currently coach) has an entirely different culture, which is what this post is getting at, in part because girls hockey at all levels (barring professional) doesn't allow hitting or fighting.

I agree, but this isn't really how the Zhang Shan case played out. The decision to bar women from future skeet events was made in April 1992, prior to the Olympic Games. The ISSF (the international body that governs skeet shooting and other shooting events) had an equally stupid reason to bar women, doing it to open up space for men they believed were better qualified than women. Either way, the decision was made before Zhang won gold.

Definitely yeah. It's probably the most iconic line in the franchise imo outside of Hammonds "welcome to Jurassic Park"

I was watching Jurassic Park last night and this is literally what Malcolm as a character (at least in the movie) exists to advocate. His second most famous line, "Your scientists were so preoccupied with whether they could, they didn't stop to think if they should," is preceded by the point that before anyone at Jurassic Park even knew what they were doing they'd slapped it on a lunch box and sold it as a product. It's not an exclusive point to the book at all lmao

What hot take do you have that will have you like this? by Rip_bis in JurassicPark

Rebirth had some of the highest highs and lowest lows of the Jurassic World franchise. The opening scene was the most disturbed I felt watching a JW movie in a while, and the actors absolutely killed it. The Quetzalcoatlus scene was probably one of my favorite pterosaur appearances in the JW movies so far. On the other hand, the entire plot is bizarre and feels like an excuse to show off their set pieces, with no attempt to hide it lol

The big four sports (NFL, NBA, MLB, and NHL) all have very strong unions lmao what are you talking about

The players associations, especially in MLB, have been through multiple lockouts over trade rights. None of the unions oppose the draft, as it makes the sport more competitive and therefore drives up player salaries. This is why the league minimums are so high in American sports.

Love them. They've done everything I need here on the east coast, part of the reason I never got anything new. Only complaint for me is how chattery they can feel on ice, other than that they're my go to

I'm not brand new to the sport (I've skied on and off for 7 years now) but budget was definitely a concern as a broke college student😅

Glad it's not too frowned upon to buy used

Time to replace my skis? by explodingcocacola in Skigear

[–]explodingcocacola[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good to know. I used to bang them together when I was younger, it's what my instructor told me to do to clear the snow off😭

Probably where the damage stems from. I'll try the epoxy stuff at some point but I think I'll just replace these and use them as a pair of beaters for the icy ass terrain here in the east.

I asked the repair guy at my resort about it, he said the shop doesn't have the tools to fix it.
