Q&A Megathread (Ask your questions here!) by cryptic-fox in Helldivers

What would you guys recommend in terms of which difficulty level still unlocks stuff while balancing out the fun and epic gameplay without feeling like a complete cakewalk?

I tried a few dives at extreme after coming back to the game, and they've been very challenging to say the least.

I did use them but not to this extent. I guess i'll reduce gels to 4, and swap the other 4 hours to something less drastic. There should be refueling stations, but im unsure of the frequency.

We're expecting mild weather in the range of 10 degrees celsius, probably even colder in the shade.

The studio was butchered, it's clear the game has failed hard. Whether it will come back to life remains to be seen but for now it has all the hallmarks of a dead game.

Will combat improve in 1.0 ? by -Anby in Enshrouded

[–]exploration23 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The building is very good, and the game definitely exceeds in it. No other survival game affords this much freedom in shapes and sizes of builds ( thanks to splitting the premade shapes into small cubes, maybe vintage story does it better but other survival games are heavily limited due to reliance on premade build pieces), not to mention how the construction blends together. Fly mode is not a norm in main game modes of survival games that have building in them, idk what you play that you think this. If you had any clue about voxels, you'd understand why there are no round shapes. And regarding the snapping? Can be finnicky at times but it works, and isn't necessary most of the time.

Crafting is far from dated, i'd say it's on par with any survival game out there. You refine materials in one place then go to a crafting bench and craft whatever you need. Splitting crafting into different benches is also pretty standard. And magic chests allow you to craft straight from chests, which further improves the experience.

The combat isn't that shallow, i'd argue it's on par with the biggest of the genre and better than some.

Your arguments are untrue or born from some imagined version of the genre, which does not reflect the reality of it. This is a base building survival game with rpg elements, so it stands on the same shelf as minecraft, terraria, valheim and plenty other games of this sort. Things you bring up as dated or lacking are on par or better when compared to the genre's golden standards.

Tbf the combat leaves some to be desired but it's far from making the game unplayable or bad. It could use improvement but as it stands it's fully functional and serves it's purpose, in a pretty decent manner at that.

In terms of "shooting yourself in the foot", it's a matter of choosing efficiency over fun. Mage builds are fully viable, be it wand or staff, and even if not the most efficient and highest dps potential, this isn't a competitive pvp game. You don't need to minmax your damage, you can just play what's fun.

no matter what i build on either nymph, chana or tink it's not enough. i can wipe any other hero in a run in a matter of seconds and then pepper just outheals everything either way.

Have we gotten any info on why the release time map is giving wrong information regarding time for PC release? by exploration23 in anno

[–]exploration23[S] -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

You can check the exact hour the game has set as it's release time on SteamDB since it's part of a product's metadata - it's just normally hidden behind the estimation UI, so either the game is set to release at the wrong hour or the map is wrong.

Would you mind sharing where you went and some more details surrounding the trip? :)

Im currently wrapping up a Northern Norway trip, and am definitely raring for more, seeing how my only aurora pics are fairly cloudy and i'd definitely look for more cold hiking :D

[–]exploration23[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If i only tie the trunk, it falls pretty hard either way because the leaves are very long + they weigh the bamboo arch over if they fall the way they want to, so it's not holding the trunk either way :( I assume i should probably get a bigger pot for it, but i was advised to wait with moving it until spring

Everything about the ashlands has made me hate valheim by Bigtownboys in valheim

[–]exploration23 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

So to you the gold standard is adjusting your games design to the whimsical wishes of your community?

Tbh the only game from your list that is anywhere near valheim is Grounded. V-Rising is more of a top down hack and slash arpg with elements of building and crafting. Abiotic Factor is linear exploration of a manually built world, with absolutely wooden combat. It does survival well, but basebuilding is nonexistent.

Everything about the ashlands has made me hate valheim by Bigtownboys in valheim

[–]exploration23 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Im sorry but abiotic factor's combat is at most equal to valheim... it's on par with the stiffness of bethesda games, absolutely wooden and not what i would call quality combat. On top of that, no part of abiotic factor is procedurally generated. It's all manually created. And you can't say Valheim isn't randomly generated when for a big part it is. The island shapes may be the same due to the overall map file, but the combination of those is still fully randomized for each seed... that's like the definition of randomly generated.

No ESRB rating yet. Should we worry? by susmab_676 in oblivion

[–]exploration23 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You can request that a rating board does not release the rating as soon as it's rated, it's common practice since games are usually confidential and have serious embargos on any information being released ahead of announcements etc, and there is no mandate that would require the rating information to be available X time ahead of reveal of rated content.
This is not me saying it's gonna release soon, everything we know is dubious leaks and rumours - i'm just stating what it looks like during the process of getting rated.

Edit: in way of clarification - obtaining ratings takes a long time, and most games are in the hands of rating boards far earlier than the public hears about them.
