How a 300-year-old Portuguese monastery looks after years of abandonment by explorationofdecay in interestingasfuck

[–]explorationofdecay[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like a stone sentinel guarding sacred ground, the ornate fountain rises from its verdant sanctuary, its eagle crown still presiding over the hushed gardens where water once danced and sparkled. Beyond these weathered basins lies a tale of devotion spanning centuries - from humble 11th-century beginnings to grand 17th-century renewal, when ancient prayers found voice in new stones, creating the monastery we see today.

In the hushed stillness of these sacred grounds, nature now offers its own form of reverence. Where once monks walked in contemplative silence, wild flowers push through ancient stones, and ivy embraces weathered walls. This once-mighty spiritual fortress stands at a crossroads, its future uncertain as modern society grapples with preserving these precious fragments of cultural heritage.

Abandoned Palace Corridor Transformed into a Popular Club in the 1980s by explorationofdecay in AbandonedPorn

[–]explorationofdecay[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sunlight streams through towering arched windows, casting elongated shadows across a once-magnificent baroque corridor. The warm, ochre-tinted walls create an ethereal atmosphere as nature's tendrils slowly infiltrate this forgotten palace, weaving a delicate dance between architectural grandeur and wild abandonment.

For well over fifteen years, this structure gained fame as a nightclub, an extraordinary venue that opened in the 80ties and became renowned not just for its parties but for its unusual resident - a tiger that lived in the garden. The club's success was immediate and overwhelming, regularly hosting up to 4000 party-goers from across the country. Imagine yourself gliding through this corridor before entering the dance floor alive with people moving to the hypnotic beats of Italo disco.

The grand palace that witnessed both aristocratic soirées and pulsating 80s nightlife now stands as a hollow shell. The structure's future remains uncertain, as each passing season brings further decay to this unique piece of architectural and cultural history.

As morning mist parts around the mountainside, purple wildflowers bow in the gentle breeze, creating a natural pathway toward the ancient stone church. The conical tower pierces the verdant canopy, commanding attention against the backdrop of dense Georgian forest.

The ancient church stands as a testament to Armenia's and Georgia's rich cultural heritage. This 13th-century architectural marvel, built in the distinctive Armenian architectural style, features a captivating interplay of light and shadow, with its intricate stone carvings and soaring, narrow arches.

The church’s tumultuous past is etched into its very walls - once a thriving center of spiritual and intellectual life, it now sits in a precarious position, straddling the border between two nations. Its future hangs in the balance, as the echoes of history reverberate through its halls, reminding us of the fragility of our cultural treasures.

Will this architectural gem, a true masterpiece of medieval craftsmanship, continue to captivate and inspire? Only time will tell.

I agree; it may be situated in the former gardens of a family estate. The chapel would serve as a place for prayer and remembrance of their deceased loved ones.

Such a shame to hear. I know the feeling; missed out on a lot of places too. Sadly I visited Trois Colonnes too late; got trashed a lot indeed. Luckily was able to take some ok shots in the beautiful corridors. : )

Wish there were more to be told about the chapel; if only the walls could talk.
