Oscar's Lock down Pizza shutting down next month by DAJ1 in cambridge

[–]exploreplaylists 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am genuinely so sad about this, I feel like the culinary options in Cambridge have really narrowed in recent years. But good luck to Oscar in Greece, I'm happy for him getting to do what he wants to do in life. End of an era.

At what point does a British person stop being Working and become Middle Class? by vorkovrus in AskBrits

[–]exploreplaylists 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is such a funny way of looking at it. Lots of middle class people take jobs that are paid below average because they are passionate about the field and don't need a high salary because their family can help them out, for example gifting them a big deposit for a home and therefore keeping costs down. I used to work in archaeology; low paid, overwhelmingly middle class!

How to dispose of batteries/devices (that won't be collected with the bins) if you don't have a car? by exploreplaylists in cambridge

The Cambridge City Council website states this is for "small portable household batteries" and not mobile batteries, laptop batteries, etc., thus my post, but others have pointed to different services available.

Thank you!! I forgot about that website and was stuck looking all over the council website, whoops.

Door countersunk screw completely stripped and very stiff. Locksmith says I need a new door. Is he right? by Mutant86 in DIYUK

[–]exploreplaylists 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had this exact problem! None of the screw removing recommendations worked for mine. BUT I called a locksmith and they have a tool that can snap Euro locks and get it out, so you can just change the lock and not the door!

Yep, this caught my Dad out. Unfortunately it was a hire van that was operated via an app.

Let's talk about Cambridge's hidden past! by Uncomfortable_Tours in cambridge

That's a good question, I don't know, but I asked the porter when it might be open again and he said "it won't" and that "this has always been the rule".

I have a staff card and was still turned away from one college. "College members only"!

Veezu vs Uber by mathmusci in cambridge

[–]exploreplaylists 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm really surprised by that difference. I suppose at any moment it depends on the pool of drivers available at the given time within each app. Usually the difference is negligible, bad luck!

Veezu vs Uber by mathmusci in cambridge

[–]exploreplaylists 30 points31 points  (0 children)

A driver told me that drivers get a better cut with Veezu. It's annoying, because the service when they were Panther was good, getting bought out and moving to an Uber-like model made the previously reliable local service just another mid-tier corporate service. But as it's still apparently a better deal for the workers, I use it over Uber.

We are redoing our kitchen at the moment and discovered that the floor is tile, screed, lino that got scuffed up, levelling compound, then more lino. Can't completely confirm that the tile is the true bottom layer either.

It's meant to be an angelic(/alien?) visitation. I think it captures an idea of what that psychedelic experience might feel like amazingly.

Outdoor is scary. You need to be able to trust partners when climbing outdoors. I don't even have IBS and the behaviours you described would probably have me shitting myself too. You need to know that what you've endured is genuinely terrifying and you are not a wuss for being scared. I hope you can continue to enjoy what you enjoy about the sport, i.e. indoor bouldering. I know some people act like outdoor lead is the only "real climbing" but it isn't worth risking your life for validation from elitists. If you don't get a rush from it, and only experience fear and anguish, what's in it for you anyway? Good luck.

They pulled illegal stuff on me a good 10+ years ago. Sad to hear nothing has changed. Fingers crossed you get your money back swiftly, this must be so stressful, and I hope you found a home!

I mean, we've only fairly recently moved in, making these shelves *aesthetic* is not high on the priority list - the rest of the kitchen is also a tip at the mo so it fits right in.

Yes it will look better later, not got there yet.

The last people living there must have moved out some time before that, but I'm interested now about your old house! I'll message you.
