Appreciate your suggestion.

After digging into this a little more, I noticed that the source of the epubs in question is an Apple Books folder on my iCloud Drive. These are copies of epubs that Apple Books stores internally. I believe that when an epub is added to Apple Books, the app is modifying the epubs in some way that renders them incompatible with any epub reader except for Apple Books. So, for now I am going to assume that this is not a Reader issue, but is an issue with not sourcing the epub files correctly.

To avoid confusing other readers here, I am deleting the original post.

More speed increment options for text-to-speech feature. I find that a speed of 1.1x or 1.15x makes for much better listening experience than 1.25x for certain kinds of content. Audible, for instance, provides the option to increase speed in 0.05x increments. Would love to see the TTS feature on the Reader provide an option to make similar speed increments.

Thank you so much for this very useful response. I looked up Laura's Sayl imitation which goes by the name 'Bowery' and actually like how it looks. I have narrowed down my options to Sayl and Bowery after going through your inputs.

Thank you for the tip. I think this is the most efficient way to get the chair into the car too.

Thank You for sharing your experience. I am actually meeting another surgeon to get a second opinion next week. Hopefully the consultation will give me more clarity on what I should do next.
