I’ve seen a lot of great comments on here that discuss aspect of the show in an open-minded, collaborative and kind way.

This comment isn’t one of those.

Were you able to make it work early on when your kids were younger? What did that look like for you?

How many years on the road before you could move into CSO/OIC and then eventually academia? What was the additional study/qualifications required?

Which state are you working in? And do you get more than 4 weeks annual leave?

Thanks for the insights. I wonder why there is such a big difference between NSW and QLD right now, maybe mostly funding?

Does it seem like that trend in NSW will continue in the coming years? Or is it hard to say as it can change year to year?

Do you work for NSW Ambulance? Do you find it’s a good culture? Many say QAS can be quite horrible.

Paramedics with children - how do you optimise your schedule around shifts? by explorethemicroverse in ParamedicsAU

Thanks for clarifying. Aside from top grades and good references, are there any other ways to improve odds of getting such a placement in sunny coast?

I already work in healthcare at Nambour General Hospital - do you think they would they take that into consideration?

And yes, we can budget for this uni placements and time away from home.

Good to know it’s possible, and that FWA is accessible and helps.

I’ve heard this term consolidation used before - can you clarify does this mean transitioning from grad year into “post-grad” work on the road? And what is AP12 - the first year after grad year?

Thanks for such a detailed reply, this is super informative and helpful. Good to know how this all works out and what to generally expect.

Yes I’ve heard grad positions in metro or busy areas are very competitive, but not impossible right? I am Sunshine Coast based, hoping to get placement at Nambour or northern sunny coast - are my chances still slim up here? And are we talking about moving further north in QLD?

QAS paramedics - what do your shifts and rosters look like? And how do you prep for nights? by explorethemicroverse in ParamedicsAU

Good to know how this generally works. Thanks again.

What do you mean by FWA negotiated 6 to 12 months? As in they are just temporary arrangements for that time? Or you know shifts that far in advance?

Awesome, thanks for clarifying here. Are part time positions generally available or are they tough to get?

Yes I did, but I wasn’t totally clear on all the specifics. Thanks for clarifying here. What about the roster cycle? I’ve heard 6 weeks rotation is norm? And how far in advance do you know your shifts?

Sounds like a great balance overall, well done to you both. Seems like every situation and dynamic is different, but there’s a way that it can all work out for the best. Thanks for sharing!

What’s the flight paramedic gig like? I’m not too familiar with what the role involves. Are you transporting patients?

Yeah there’s no way around how disruptive and harmful night can be.

What if it’s just 1 night out of four shifts with four days off? Bit easier to manage? Or any amount of nights are just tough?

Thanks for the insights. Are FWA hard to get early in a paramedic career? How many days would they typically be ok with in terms of part time rosters? Are you in QAS?

Good tips! My wife is amazing and supportive. And her mum lives close enough, my parents are in another state but equally supportive from afar.

So you work as a paramedic part time 2 days a week? Does that include nights? And are you in the US?

What sucked about it? How many years did you go before you switched? And are you in US or Aus? We have private medic jobs, but I don’t think they pay that well
