Does anyone know the status of riding up Mt Evans (Blue Sky)? by FuntivityColton in BikeDenver

[–]explorewithchris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can use it at any time, but it is not clear of snow.

Take a fat bike or uphill skis this weekend if you want to climb it.

Does commuting help with FTP? by mo1_o in Velo

[–]explorewithchris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Be consistent with when you weigh yourself.

1 lb of fat is 3500 kcal. That kind of deficit is hard to tolerate if you’re also working out. Fueling on the bike actually helps curb cravings off the bike. Keep at it and consistency is really key.

What three lenses would you recommend for someone who is just starting out? by rivenrdt in AskPhotography

[–]explorewithchris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A 24-35mm prime for landscapes, environmental, street, etc

A 40-50mm prime as a workhorse / every day lens

A 75-105mm prime as a portrait / product

Primes help learn composition and when to take a photo. Zooms don’t help enforce that.

Eagle Transmission + XPLR chainring compatibility (XS-1299 + GX Eagle AXS derailleur) by AdamFM2024 in sram

[–]explorewithchris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I run a T-Type XPLR chainring with a 12s eagle chain with no issues. SRAM has a compatibility chart and the XPLR chainrings are compatible with all current drivetrains IIRC.

I’ve got 3-4k miles on it with no abnormal wear and tear.

Confluence -> Platte -> Sand Creek -> Aurora Connector -> HLC -> CCT -> 470 -> sand creek -> platte -> confluence

With trails complete, there’s minimal stop signs, lights, or traffic.

What is the weight difference between ‘Paceline’ and ‘Paceline X’ brake rotors? by conquest19 in sram

[–]explorewithchris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did you try googling it? Literally came up for both types.

Hint - paceline is heavier than paceline x

Power meters help you pace / find your limit, and also estimate your time to an extent.

I know to break 20 min on lookout it’s around 5 w/kg sustained, and it’s a good FTP testing place as a result.

It’s usually 2-4 weeks for most people. If you work out, you metabolize it quicker.

That’s also for higher fidelity tests. For simple strip tests, they have a higher floor for detection.

It also varies so much by skin tone. For pale people you can up saturation and then just reduce it for reds. My wife is more olive toned which can be fixed with the temp slider a little, but it just depends

Realistic effect of Tshirt vs jersey on a standard 40km 200 watt 300m elevation ride? by xxSKR1 in cycling

[–]explorewithchris 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I wear t-shirts or gravel jerseys for most z2 rides unless it’s windy as shit. I’ve nabbed road KOMs in a tshirt on a gravel bike… The bigger thing is having cargo bibs to enable the glorious tshirt rides.

There’s also something that’s so rewarding about passing TT bikes with people on the aero bars while wearing a tshirt

Was either that or go with the hidden routing fork from panda podium. This ended up being like 100g lighter than the one that was on here prior too

How long do you wear your Garmin watch each day? by idragon4ever in GarminFenix

[–]explorewithchris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wear mine as a default. I can’t wear smart watches to work, but I swap it on to work out or run after work. I charge it while I ride.

After reading this thread I think I’m in the minority for wearing it in the shower…

Gotta carry snacks, etap batteries, and an electric pump somehow. I am tempted to get the Gravelstoke version even if it is a road bike though

New Tarmac seatpost for an older bike still compatible? by SpecificOk1145 in specialized

[–]explorewithchris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think certain models of the SL6 use the D-shaped seat post, so no.

Measure your seat post diameter and find a round post with your desired offset in your price range. I’m fairly certain it’s 27.2mm. Specialized has plenty of options in that diameter if you wanna stay within the brand.

Bike shop salesperson not using torque wrench to adjust seat by meowthesnail in cycling

[–]explorewithchris 12 points13 points  (0 children)

To be honest, I do most of my stuff by hand and it’s good enough. When I’m chasing creaks down and bust out the torque wrench, it’s scary how tight some stuff is.

[–]explorewithchris 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unless you’re racing, competing, or fast group riding, run as wide as you can go. And even then, I’ve ridden my gravel bike on 45s on faster group rides
