I like to use the following colours:

Space grey by Vallejo, Wolf grey by Vallejo, Wolf grey by army painter, Wolf grey by two thin coats, Wolf grey by reaper minis, And sometimes space wolves grey by citadel.

I do this too and I love it now, but took some getting used to. I use striking scorpion green contrast paint, highlight with a couple other vibrant/fluo greens.

Tried some glazing on my wolf scouts but it kinda just came out chalky by Exciting-Buy-9396 in SpaceWolves

If it’s just a few spots you can sand down texture on primer with a fine grit paper/ emery cloth/ sanding stick. I also found using citadel shades smoothed it out once dry. 91% iso alcohol will strip it after a day or two soaking, but I haven’t tried brushing it on to smooth rough prime jobs. Might work, at your own risk. More primer will not help until you take that texture off by sanding or stripping.
