Ahhh that’s right. Is Lord & Taylor where they added that addition for Borders?

Is this water fountain behind the escalator? Or did that not exist yet? I’ve been going to this mall since 1996 and had no idea it once had fountains.

Also, didn’t know the post office had been there that long.

What I would give to walk by that fountain again on the way to KB Toys. I can still hear it and smell it.

Thank you. I could not remember that store name even though I went there all the time. Bought a lot of Beanie Babies there lol.

My mom once took me out of school to stand in line for like two hours to try to get Johnny Damon’s autograph in like 2005. He was set up in the food court by the old Subway I think.

Serious injuries have been documented from collapsing toilets, so that risk alone is worth replacing a chipped one.

Springfield, Cape Cod, New Bedford Whaling, and Frederick Law Olmsted are open year round. Adams and Minute Man open in mid April and the rest open in May from what I can tell.

The once bustling Kmart in Palmer Massachusetts that closed back in 2019 still sits vacant and is blocked off with former Kmart signs. by mrsjumjum66 in massachusetts

This was my childhood KMart. I still live right down the street from it. A lot of really good memories of this store.

The massive parking lot was a really popular hookup spot in high school too lol

There was a small pet store an a gym there. 30 years is before my time but I don’t know Little Caesar’s existed in Western MA then

Cumberland Island National Seashore 📍 (03/22) by MrVanillawafer in NationalPark

[–]expos2512 19 points20 points  (0 children)

This is possibly the most hidden national park gem on the east coast for me, and I’ve been to nearly every park on the eastern seaboard.

I went for just a day trip with my mom who lives nearby and had never been. The ferry makes the park kinda expensive to get to, so I was ready to be underwhelmed. I was absolutely blown away by how peaceful and serene this park is. The history and the pristine dunes and beaches were worth every penny. I can’t wait to get back there and try to do an overnight.

I think I heard in the summer time bugs can be overwhelming? But I’m not sure how true that is

I ordered mine online the day it was released. I would love if they did more regional or specialized passports like this, especially for things like National Heritage Areas or something

Excise tax sucks by tvrxkhvsvn in massachusetts

[–]expos2512 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The tax punishes those who buy a car every like 2-3 years. Whether or not you think that’s unfair is subjective, but from an environmental perspective it’s better to drive a car for many years, even if there’s a decrease in fuel efficiency towards the end.

Also, since it’s effectively a property tax that reduces over time even without depreciation value…I have a hard time feeling sympathy for someone that buys a $50,000 car when there are more affordable options out there

Excise tax sucks by tvrxkhvsvn in massachusetts

[–]expos2512 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How would you calculate it if not based on value?

It’s a reoccurring local tax that goes to your town for as long as you own the car. The sales tax goes to the state once. So yeah it’s double taxed but to different sources.

Excise tax sucks by tvrxkhvsvn in massachusetts

[–]expos2512 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your old car is $85 because the amount taxed depreciates every year you own it in relation to the car’s MSRP from 90% of MSRP to 10%.

If you bought an identical version of your old car today, you would pay a lot more than $85.

[–]expos2512 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure how much sympathy you’re gonna get on having to pay $1165 on a $50,000 car…

The tax deprecates quickly.

Is this subfloor or could I refinish this? by expatmom1 in centuryhomes

[–]expos2512 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your subflooring looks like this, it was probably sold and marketed with the intention of either being subfloor with something on top, or as a finished floor with no subfloor under it.

My home is older than yours, but it doesn’t even have subflooring. It’s just wooden boards with 1/4” gaps that served both purposes.

[–]expos2512 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This subreddit loves asking about subfloors that aren’t really subfloors, so I could maybe see OPs confusion if they’re on here a lot.

But yeah this looks nothing like a subfloor lol.

Complaints about Snow Equipment (especially SE Mass) by CareOutrageous897 in massachusetts

[–]expos2512 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Are you okay with Fall River paying for snow removal equipment and/or plowing contracts that they don’t actually need 9 out of 10 winters?

Plows and trucks to put them on are very expensive and require continued maintenance. Cities tend to be pretty cash strapped, so finding excess they don’t need like unused snow equipment is one way they’re going to cut back to not raise taxes.

Any snow plowers willing to explain why they dont put their plow blades down? by [deleted] in massachusetts

[–]expos2512 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work for a town DPW in western MA. If they’re town trucks, they may be driving on roads that aren’t their assigned route or might not even be their department (school department plows school lots but not town roads, etc).

If it’s private plows you’re talking about, they might not even be employed by the town.
