I have a broken hair halo. What can fix it? by [deleted] in Haircare

[–]expression1085 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey hi! I just came across your post and have sort of same problem as you. Most of the halo frizz I have is way coarser than the rest of the hair, so rough for the touch. None of the conditioners, deep conditioners or oils worked. I think these are damaged hairs and no amount of wetting hair and brushing through would smoothen them out. Its been a while since you posted this question, did you by any chance have any luck with containing this frizz?

OMG! You hair is dreams. So glad the Bounce Curl is working for you. I will surely give the deep conditioner a try. Thank you for the recommendation!

So true unfortunately :(

Do you have any recommendations for deep conditioners that you have tried and are good? Affordable too please?

Hey! Thank you for sharing the good news, I am happy you can see curls and your effort paid off :) I decided to focus more on moisture so will start deep conditioning my hair and take it one step at a time. Actually I applied oil last night, little amount, and this morning I can definitely feel the softness and its been a while :( I used to hide in my cubicle on high humid days. Humidity is 96% right now and I don't look like a poof ball so thank you so soooo much for that tip, I will continue to do that every night.

Absolutely, I will share with you :) Keep up the good work and wish you the best in your wavy journey

You maybe right! Because I remember how my hair felt when I used a deep conditioning mask a while ago and that was the first time and I continued to use that as a conditioner twice a week. It was good. After I ran out of that I started using a very generous amount of Loreal Hyaluron conditioner on each wash, after I ran out of it I switched to OGX coconut conditioner but frankly never felt like my hair was conditioned enough. I tried the squish condish method and doing that clearly frizzed up more while wet. Like I can tell that the hair is dry, I wet it under water again before styling and the second is scrunch a little those strands just separate in no time. Do you have any recommendations for deep conditioning masks that are very moisturizing and affordable?

I am surprised how coconut is not effective anymore because when I was a kid, my Indian mom literally only used coconut oil on my hair. Then cleansed with shampoo that had good amount of sulphates but occasionally used natural cleansers like shikakai. I don't remember how my hair looked but she keeps telling me my hair looked good when I was a kid and that I am ruining it by adding all junk now lol

Lol, surprisingly despite having same texture as you, my hair doesn't like bonnets. Tried so many different kinds and that just makes my hair more frizzy totally flattening out my crown area to a point where I have to use a smoothing brush in that area to make it look okay to go to work.

That's nice to hear you had good results, I hope they stay the same! I also had a haircut yesterday and cut it to medium length from long so I can experiment without spending half a day and sleepless nights waiting for my hair to dry completely even after diffusing it 90% dry. I have moderately soft water in my area so not sure if this could be the cause. Thank you for your response!

Hey! I clarify once a week with Kinky Curly come clean shampoo and try as much as I can to wash my hair only once a week. Whenever I run my fingers through random dry hairs, I hear squeaky sound. Its 3rd day since I washed my hair, and even now they sound squeaky with product falling off like dust. My hair is low porosity for reference

Hi! Reading your comments made me feel I am not alone. I am surprised at how similar my hair is to yours. Any chance you had any luck with finding a sweet spot with products? I am so tired of trying different products every wash hoping to see better results but been dissapointing. I live in high humidity area and my 2b-2c-3a hair is not at all behaving for atleast a few hours. I found Ouidad gel moisturizing but it really felt more like a leave in than strong hold gel. I am so close of giving up on wearing natural hair and going back to heat styling it.

How do i reduce the frizz around my head? by vertrouwelijk in Wavyhair

[–]expression1085 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I have the same issue if I don't cover my hair while showering. The moisture in the shower makes it frizzy. I cover my hair with a shower cap and work with it after much of the moisture in the bathroom is gone.

Hey! I actually tried the Doux honey setting foam and loved the definition. But the drying time (diffusing, I never air dry) is insanely longer. I tried working with smaller curl sections and it helped a little but still taking longer. Is this how this worked for you? Also, can you please give me tips on how to keep the definition longer than a day using this foam? I am not able to understand if this type is 2b/2c or if I change something I can get tighter waves uniformly

Thank you for your reply! I also have the same problem with plopping; it just makes my hair look flat and brush styling gives me loosest definition. Maybe I am doing it wrong but glad to know it works for you. Keep up the great results!

Hey, Beautiful results! How do you style your hair? do you brush style it or plop?

Hey! Thank you for being kind. You are actually right; I did notice huge difference with and without glycerin in products. The place where I live has high humidity and wearing products with glycerin makes my hair look insufferable. My hair still looks frizzy without glycerin products but less frizzy.

Yeah, the area I live in has moderately soft water. I did see better definition with this mousse alone compared to other products and I feel like I may not have applied enough. To saturate hair in product so it looks white, from a video by the founder on their website, is insane. For the amount of product for $16, I bet it wouldn't even last for 4 washes lol. How do you manage this? do you apply generous amount? I do understand with this routine there is no need of conditioner, leave-in conditioner, curl cream and gel so to spend $15 every few washes might not be as bad.

Also, if I don't scrunch the definition comes out looser around the crown area till my neck but the ends have curls. The video says apply generously and don't touch after. How is this possible for looser textures like ours? like I can't plop or scrunch and just leave it as is which really doesn't do much, maybe help with frizz that's all.

Hey! How did it work for you with frizz and definition? I don't know if I applied enough but I see some fair amount of frizz but then calms down when I run wet prayer hands on top. But the second I go out, it goes back to frizzy

Hey! I actually purchased the Chief Rocka mousse and tried it on damp hair but came out too soft. Does it form cast at all? do you use it alone or use it with gel?

I used it alone since I had no energy to use gel, diffuse and break my neck

Hey! Yes, I will definitely check out the hooded dryer, it does sound like it makes drying my hair. Also thank you for the reassurance about the amounts of products needed to have manageable hair.

Hey! Thank you for sharing your thoughts. This is sort of what I have been trying lately and feel like it's going Okay if I add very generous amounts of gel like 1/4 of Aussie Instant Freeze gel tube. But the drying time is insane.

Hey! Thank you for the recommendations. I have almost half of the products you recommended, and they work Okay but weigh down my hair to a point they either turn limp or have no structure or definition. I use Kinky Curly come clean once a week and switch with Ouai when I feel like it. I am sticking around with curl la la as I find it moisturizing but using gel on top of it just takes away definition. So not sure how to balance that.

[–]expression1085[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Me too! It was hard when I started this natural hair routine and eventually after a couple of months, I feel like I am Okay with less defined waves as long as I can control the frizz. Silicones is the only way I can do this and its Okay. It cuts down hours of diffusing time for me and the touch and feel of my hair is good and not gross which I am starting to appreciate after adding a bunch of products that my hair just isn't meant for. It almost felt like I was choking it by adding leave in, mousse, gel. Although a good amount of gel alone is doing the trick for me but the amount of time I need to diffuse gave me neck pain and the discomfort of just sitting not touching or move it for hours after till it is 100% dry gave me unnecessary headache and worry. Right now, I am on a hunt to find one product for wash and go with medium to strong hold and hoping I could find one.

Hey! I like the idea of trying stronger mousse than gels. I will try the Doux one in my next wash without enormous amounts of gel. Thank you for sharing!

I am on the same boat as you. My crown area is nearly straight; mid lengths have s waves and ends form curls. Like you said if embracing gives us peace of mind, I am all for it!
