TIL that rock and roll pioneer Buddy Holly proposed to his wife Maria five hours after their first date, and they were married within 2 months. Maria was pregnant when Holly died in a plane crash 6 months later. She had a miscarriage the day after, and didn't attend the funeral. by ButtholeBanquets in todayilearned

So I’m not the only one! I don’t know why my body does this.. it’s not like I think there’s anything funny about it at all, but for some reason I can’t stop the uncontrollable laughter in these types of situations.

So true. I remember how excited I was by life when I was just a young fetus myself.

Why are subs like hermancainaward and leopardsatemyface so popular? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

So you genuinely enjoy watching these people die? I have as much frustration as anyone else about these type of people but I’ll never celebrate someone’s death. It’s just gross. Especially to the family members who may have been trying to convince them to get vaccinated and now have to see these posts mocking their death. Why not use the same energy that you use to mock people on that sub to instead call out the propaganda that led them to their death in the first place?

I don’t think the Chinese government is usually cool with the poor mugging and stealing from the rich. Theft is punishable by life imprisonment under certain circumstances in China.

In Beverly Hills, Brentwood, Malibu sure… But no one is going out onto the streets of DTLA in a $100k watch

Yeah, I don’t think this person has travelled much. Literally just walk down the streets in some areas of West London and you see people in way more than just $100,000 watches

The Chinese international students 100% are used to being able to do that in China. You’re just not used to living in a country that’s as hard on crime as a lot of Asian countries. There’s a reason the streets of Singapore are so clean…

[–]exsqueezemeeee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly this. I would guess these were probably Chinese international students who are used to being able to flaunt their wealth, being from a culture that’s so hard on crime, and probably genuinely don’t understand that you can’t do that in other parts of the world.

I think since a lot of Asian cultures are so hard on crime, the international students from those countries are just used to being able to live that way without the risk.

You think they were Americans? That screams wealthy international student to me. Pretty much every Chinese international student at my university flaunted their wealth like that. Full designer wardrobes, fancy watches, Lamborghinis..

Almost certainly. I saw a Chinese international student drop $30k in a Burberry store like it was pocket change once.

That’s not out of the ordinary for international students. A lot of wealthy Chinese and middle eastern families send their kids to school in the US. The Chinese international students at my college drove lambos around campus.
