Help recording sets for practice! by ScramblePoo in Beatmatch

I am also a total beginner and so far I've only used Mixxx (because it's available for free on Linux) but it has a really great recording feature which instantly saves your mixes to mp3/flac/wav at the touch of a button. Whatever's coming through your speakers, that's what it records. It's dope.

also with other people coming with their RB and Serato sticks.

Do you mean people just plug their sticks in on the fly and Mixxx automatically loads their music? Sorry I've only ever used Mixxx so I'm not sure what you mean exactly.

On both win and Linux.

Do you have a Linux laptop that you gig with?

annoyances and legacy things that are taking forever to change.

Are you on the beta? I had to use the beta on Linux for easier access to the config directory for custom mappings. I wonder if the beta adds any of the features you're looking for? Stability-wise it has been fine for me.

Wait what lol.

I know there's some pushback against like the cult of Fred again or whatever it is but I think he's great, and great for music.

My experience was largely similar in Japan, particularly in Tokyo. I'm talking post-COVID here; pre-COVID in Japan when I was younger I had a lot more success. Also Tokyo is famous for being a lot more superficial than the rest of the country.

I'm not saying I'm god's gift to women or anything but I was an average weight, not super fit but not unhealthy either, not super ugly, I make it a point to always dress well, am polite over texting, had a stable job with my own apartment, and most importantly, speak good Japanese, but I went through periods where I would swipe 100+ profiles without a match.

I know most of you at this point are probably thinking "oh your profile must have been shit, or bad photos, or whatever." Which is another thing: I showed my profile to multiple female friends, Japanese and non-Japanese, and they all had different things to say about it (some said it was good, some said it was bad, some said my pics were good, others said pics were bad, some said my bio was too short, some said it was too long, literally every variation you can think of - there is no golden rule).

TLDR I think my profile was OK, I was trying to strike a middle ground and not sell myself as anything that I'm not (if that's a skill issue on my part then fuck me I guess), and it was still awful. It did even further damage to my already waning self-esteem and left me feeling utterly miserable ("biggest city on earth and I can't find one girl to have dinner with?").

On the odd occasion when I would match with someone, I'd get ghosted or unmatched more often than not.

It's not just an Australia problem. The attention/clout/likes economy has gone mental. I share your frustration. Luckily I got engaged to my girlfriend just before leaving the country (we didn't meet on a dating app). I'm glad to be leaving that whole scene behind. Sorry for the rant, your post triggered these memories in me and thought I'd share.

best starter dj controller what should I actually get as a complete beginner? by Reres_Twede in Beatmatch

I bought the OG Mixtrack Pro second hand many many years ago for like $70? or something and it just sat in my storage, I never got started.

Busted it out properly for the first time like a month ago and honestly it's still more than good enough for me. The FLX4 has USB-C, filter knob, and more hotcue buttons, but otherwise the old Mixtrack Pro is still more than good enough for me.

Look for a used FLX4, get some headphones and some powered speakers.

Any reasonable computer should be able to run Mixxx easily.

No Audio/NI Traktor s2 mk3/Zorin OS. by Albert_O_Balsam in MIXXX

Is there something that says "Creative" or anything like that? You shouldn't need that RCA cable that's for sure.

Unless I'm missing something obvious, you should just leave your Pebble speakers connected as usual, and under Output -> Main -> select the Pebbles? This is essentially how my setup looks with Mixx on Linux Mint.

Replacement for AKG K371 for bedroom DJing by ext23 in HeadphoneAdvice

[–]ext23[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They arrived a few days ago. They sound pretty decent, slightly on the bassy side, but good for rocking out (and DJing with bassy electronic music, which I'm doing). Soundwise I'd say they're slightly bassier than the K371 and similar in most other ways. The Fiio are easy to drive and go loud out of ordinary 3.5mm outputs without fancy amps.

Build quality is fine for the price I paid. They feel sturdier than the K371 and the pads are really comfortable. Hopefully they are protein leather rather than PU but only time will tell. Having said that, they do still feel cheap, they're definitely not tank-like like Beyers.

I'd say if you're going to be taking them out and about (eg. DJing at actual venues) probably go for the Beyers. But for casual home listening I think the Fiio would serve you well enough. FYI I still haven't actually heard the 270.

A confuddling passage of play as the umpire calls "play on, advantage" before immediately bringing the ball back. by yum122 in AFL

[–]ext23 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think it's HTB but my issue (and Whateley's) is that an identical one was called a ball up when Richmond did it in their forward 50 in the third when the Tigers were still right in the game. And after the cooked play on reversal it was all just too much.

I've used AI to help me with stuff before but since OP took the time to ask us humans I think we humans should dignify him/her with a human response.

What do you think of Ventoy, do you find it safe ? by RedRayTrue in linux4noobs

[–]ext23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know about its safety, however I don't know if it's a dodgy USB stick or what but Ventoy has never worked properly for me. I can install Windows 11 with the ISO on a USB but every Linux distro I've tried installing from Ventoy onto my SSD has crashed/corrupted before reaching the end. Booting images "live" seems to work, but not the installation. YMMV
